I think Obama will win.
Reagan was able to successfully convey the wistfulness of the past...a hallmark of what makes the conservative Republican party what it is...or rather what it was. I don't think McCain embodies that.
Besides, now that the Republican party has become a bastion of neo-conservatiism...where anything is done to protect our freedoms, no matter the consequences...I think people will realize that philosophy is not really the way things should go because it actually leads to actions that will limit our freedoms (wire tapping...big brother...etc). I don't want to live in a world akin to the way things were in V for Vendetta - yeah it's a bit of an exaggeration...but that crap worries me.
So I think there will be a natural backlash to that...thereby fracturing the Republican party. This is Obama's election to lose. He would have to do something totally stupid...or not be able to defend against being "swift-boated" to lose.
Plus...with the whole Global Warming issue gaining prominence...who's party is geared toward combatting that rather than pretending that it doesn't exist...or that it is too much of a financial burden to do something about it?
Add the whole conflict in the Middle East with Iraq and Afghanistan...not finding bin Laden etc...I don't see how Obama can lose.

As for McCain doing better than Obama when they eventually debate, I think Obama will do okay...especially when McCain doesn't even know how much a gallon of gasoline costs...talk about being out of touch.

I used to think debates mattered. Then after watching Kerry destroy Bush in the debates and lose the election, I realized that they might not matter in this election either.

Sucks to be us regardless of who wins.

You do realize this is not the first debate Obama has dodged, don't you? The town meeting debates he's invited Obama to have not been on military bases.
