I´ve posted this before, but it bears repeating: bomb Iran from the air and you have a naval and land war on your hands for the simple reason that Iran WILL close the Straits of Hormuz as a retaliation, and someone will have to go in to clear it. That will mean sea, air and land based operations in rocky, mountaneus terrain and extremely constricted waters. And every day the straits are closed, the world economy takes a pounding.
Well stated.

There will be no attack on Iran. It's simply not possible to carry it out in any fashion that doesn't sharply intensify the problems the US is already cracking under the strain of.

Most of the neocons are not even for it currently.

And most importantly it is not politically possible to engage Iran militarily right now.

I whole heartedly agree that thats the last thing the US needs. I just have less faith in the common sense of our leaders than you do I guess. There are still more pennies to be squeezed from the American people and I have no doubt our political crooks will find a way to get at them. And don’t think US is out of the spreading democracy game when Bush is out of office. McCain sounds like Bush 2.0 more and more each day. Hillary is clearly interested in whats best for Hillary, not the Democratic party, so why would she be interested in whats best for the American people? And as for Barak, he says all the right things, but even if he does win the deck is stacked against him.
