Not if you are a US soldier or an Iraqi. I am glad that no civilians Americans have been killed after 9/11 but we can't just ignore the other deaths that resulted from Bush's decisions.
He's the commander in chief. They are in the volunteer military. Bush didn't send sheep to the slaughter. They are trained military. Using your logic we should have never fought a war ever. hell, why even have a police force if we're going to send cops in harms way.

I think you are missing my point. My point was that hailing Bush as the bringer of safety overlooks the fact that he made the lives of the entire population of Iraq extremely unsafe. I am glad no Americans have been harmed post-9/11 (who wouldn't be?) but I still think the Iraq decision should effect Bush's "safety record" if you want to call it that.

It's like the movie Dumb and Dumber when Lloyd is telling Mary in the limo how safe he is as a driver because she hasn't been harmed, meanwhile there are explosions and car-wrecks in the background.

Of course, the job of the President is to ensure the safety of Americans (and not Iraqis) but I still think the deaths of non-enemy civilians should enter the equation in some way. That's just my opinion.

It never ceases to amaze me that during Vietnam, you had fewer gripes about men who were DRAFTED into the military to fight a war

Now you have more gripes for men AND women who VOLUNTARILY joined the military, then 9/11 happened, then Iraq, and you have bitching and moaning exponentially.

How is it that in the 60's drafted men didnt bitch as much who were forced by government to fi ght, yet VOLUNTEER military as we have now with NO draft are crying the most?

Is it because of our pussified society?

Or lack of education as to how the system works. Which is likely. Teachers Unions and the like have pussified and made the sheep to believe they never have to do anything to earn any place in the system.

Maybe a draft would do us good. Force people into service so they u nderstand their freedom comes at a cost. Not just because they want the college GI bill benefit

When the next attack occurs, I can only hope McCain is in office to fuck the terrorists up, instead of inviting them over for tea to discuss their concerns and pat them on the back as Obama will.

So you think Iraq was safer when Saddam ruled with in an iron fist? He practiced genocide against his own people and his atrocities and corruption are too numerous to count. The big difference is that the Iraqi people can now forge their own destiny. They can vote. They have freedoms they didn't have under saddam. The people making Iraq less safe is not the United States. It's the terrorists attacking, targeting and killing innocent civilians.

I hope you can see the difference.

There was helluv griping during Vietnam. Dudes were doing anything to get themselves rated 4F. Anything in the '1' range and your ass was going to the rice paddies. Guys were running to Canadia, claiming they were gay, etc. Nobody wanted to go to that shithole.

War casualties suck, lets face it, but there hasn't even been 5000 killed yet. Shit, in Nam there was over FIFTY Thousand killed. I guess it's just society's perspective.
