(AP) U.S. military officials say that despite being freed in exchange for signing pledges to renounce violence, at least seven former prisoners of the United States at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have returned to terrorism, at times with deadly consequences.

At least two are believed to have died in fighting in Afghanistan, and a third was recaptured during a raid of a suspected training camp in Afghanistan, said Lt. Cmdr. Flex Plexico, a Pentagon spokesman. Others are at large.

Additional former detainees are said to have expressed a desire to rejoin the fight, be it against U.N. peacekeepers in Afghanistan, Americans in Iraq or Russian soldiers in Chechnya.

Some 146 detainees have been released from Guantanamo, but only after U.S. officials had determined the prisoners no longer posed threats and had no remaining intelligence value.

Pentagon officials acknowledged that the release process is imperfect, but they said most of the Guantanamo detainees released have steered clear of Islamic insurgent groups.

It's really reassuring to see how many people support the US government's right to imprison and torture people without trial because they might do something bad. Right now you have to be muslim, but how long will that last? I'm sure our government, shining temple of honesty that it is, would only use this power for the right reasons.

Talk about anti-American? REad the posts before yours and you have your answer.

If Gregster was a true American he wouldn't be pleased with the fact our government is torturing people, never mind the fact that in some instances they are probably innocent.

C'mon Gregster, can't you come up with some bullshit charge for these guys? Otherwise, I think they should be sent to Anbar Province so at least if they are terrorists they will be able to make their way in the breeding grounds of terrorism that above posters support.
Uhm, dude...

They're muslim.

If they are guilty of fighting a war out of uniform they should be executed on the spot. The law is the law.

Fun Gitmo fact: All of the people who have been on the bad end of the "waterboard" (not counting members of the U.S. military) had their picture taken together in the seventies.

The first and third poems sounded like what you get when you put an otherwise unextraordinary poet into a rather extraordinary situation.

The middle one sounded like he could write poetry regardless of the situation.

EIther way, I hurt with all three of them and I fear the first poet speaks of me when he speaks of the fate the "principled men and fair-minded" deserve.

Nobody held at Guantanamo is guilty. They're all innocent poets. The only criminals are the US military.

Allahu Akbar.

As reassuring as seeing how many Americans (not people who are hostile to America like flatbrain & vaj) are convinced that Guantanamo detainees are innocents and that the criminals are the American soldiers.
