The Official Republican Presidential Debates in Mesa, AZ Thread
Date: Wednesday, February 22, 2012
Time: 8pm ET on CNN - Live Stream
Location: Mesa Arts Center in Mesa, Arizona
Sponsor: CNN and the Republican Party of Arizona
Participants: Gingrich, Paul, Romney, Santorum
This is the first GOP Debate since Jan. 26 in Florida and just ahead before the Feb. 28th Primaries in Michigan and Arizona. The current Arizona RCP Average Polling for the candidates are: Romney 38.2%, Santorum 30.0%, Gingrich 16.0% and Paul 8.2%. On the RCP General Election Polling with Obama vs. either current GOP candidate, Obama sweeps every single poll. I do not think there is a specific theme to the debate but I would suspect that the topic of Gas Prices would be discussed in-depth.
All predictions, play-by-play action and post-debate analysis are welcome in this thread.

Romney's money has been working in MI where he was behind and AZ where he was equal to slightly ahead, combined with Santorum's extreme right posturing. He's spending millions and has turned the corner with polls now trending in his direction.
Romney by KO (money uppercut)
My prediction: look for him to just play it cool in the debate, with the occasional shot at Santorum's extreme views, but mostly avoiding anything substantive. He's up on all the judges scorecards, so he has no need to sweat it.
Like it's always been, it will be Mr. Moneybags fighting on behalf of the rich versus Mr. Somewhat less Moneybags fighting on behalf of the rich in November. I mean, did you see today Obama wants to take corporate taxes down to 28%? While Republicans want 25%. So there is your big choice right there. How much to reduce corporate taxes.

That and a Santorum fire and brimstone speech is what im looking forward to.
