More hypocrisy from the UN: " U.N. council: 'Shock' over Lebanon deaths"

Quote:
By PAUL BURKHARDT, Associated Press Writer

UNITED NATIONS - The U.N. Security Council approved a statement Sunday expressing "extreme shock and distress" over Israel's bombing of civilians in Qana, Lebanon but stopped short of condemning the attack.

An Israeli airstrike early Sunday on a three-story building in the south Lebanese village of Qana killed 56 people, almost all of them women and children, according to Red Cross officials and Lebanese police.

The presidential statement, adopted unanimously by the 15-member council in an emergency session, softened language in an earlier draft which said the council "strongly deplores this loss of innocent life and the killing of civilians in the present conflict."

The final statement called for the council to work without delay to adopt a resolution for a lasting settlement of the crisis.

"The Security Council expresses its extreme shock and distress at the shelling by the Israeli Defense Forces of a residential building in Qana, in southern Lebanon, which has caused the killing of dozens of civilians, mostly children, and injured many others," it said.

The question is: where were these bastards when the tutsis and hutus were massacring each other.

The U.N is useless, all American funding to the U.N shold be cut.

They never accomplish anything, just hold meetings and pass resolutions while everything around them falls apart.

Don't forget about the old strongly worded UN letter.

I've never been a fan of the UN either... United Nations on a violent planet makes little to no sense and holds back progress thru violence. May sound a little animalistic, but this world isn't ready for civility, peace and understanding and parts of the world need to be humbled. Quickly.

I agree; your post reminded me of Hume's ethics.

I just can't sit by while enemies would use and abuse our laws and use them against us and then watch people in said country sympathize with them. Truly sad.

agreed the U.N is pretty useless, but lets not forget, U.N isnt some country or anything, its made of countries all across the world, the fact that U.N is powerless against just about anyone with a decent military, is because of OUR unwillingness to do anything about the situation other than a wag of the finger.
