McCain isn't the friend of gun-owners that some people think he is. He's rated a C+ by the NRA and F- by the GOA, mainly for his expressed support for "assault weapon" bans and his co-authorship of a bill to close the so-called "gun show loophole" (i.e. private person-to-person sales of firearms).

McCain has been catering to Hispanic voters for many, many years because they have been a major constituency of his for many, many years. He's a senator from Arizona for gods sake, you can't get elected in border states if you don't play nice with the largest minority population. This shouldn't come as news to anyone.
