There is a reason why you see pictures like this.
I am glad he got off, he was an older man defending his neighbors house. What a good neighbor, we should all live in a place like that. Even if the jury did think he took the law into his own hands it was justified, whats wrong with the Lone Cowboy who seeks Justice when he sees bad things happening?
