Probably something to do with the fact Bin Laden having orchestrated the killing of two thousand plus U.S civilians with an airliner, and isn't a leader of a county? I don't think anyone wants to work out "peace" with Bin Laden.

Talking with bin Laden would be useless, as he is pretty much a trivial figure in Middle Eastern politics. The people the US must absolutely talk to includes Ahmadinajad, political leaders in Syria, etc, and any other countries that have cultural and historic ties to Iraq; this would be in order to effectuate a withdrawal of US forces that would leave the Iraq situation in some kind of relative stability while allowing the US to combat international terrorism, for which purpose the Iraq war was a terribly irrelevant distraction.

This is an amazing act of contempt directed at the US. Carter is a liberal fool, but that's beside the point. He is a former President of the US, a country to which Israel owes its existence. Israel has the elementary obligation to offer him protection.

Well, arguably by "existence" he meant "current existence," rather than "founding." You can make a pretty viable case that if not for US support from the mid 1960s onward, Israel would've been taken out.
