Iran gave al-Qaeda in Iraq SAM-7 missiles

Quote:
London, May 13 – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) had provided the insurgent group al-Qaeda in Iraq heavy weapons including anti-aircraft missiles, it emerged on Friday.

The Iraqi daily az-Zaman which is published in London and Baghdad quoted credible Iraqi sources as revealing that the IRGC had given al-Qaeda in Iraq, Strela-type SAM-7 surface-to-air missiles, modern explosives, and a large number of personnel arms including Kalashnikovs and BKC machineguns.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq is believed to be led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who is on the United States’ wanted list.

The report said that representatives of al-Zarqawi’s group met in Beirut with members of the Iran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah and through them established channels with Tehran.

Three close aides to al-Zarqawi travelled to Iran via a security checkpoint in the Iraqi border province of al-Amara from where they met with Iranian officials, the report added.

The United States and Iraqi officials have accused Iran’s radical Islamic government of sending agents and arms into Iraq to assist the insurgency.

The IRGC was founded in the early days of the Islamic revolution in 1979 as an armed force loyal to Iran’s clerical rulers. Its commanders directly report to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and their mission is to “protect and propagate” the Islamic revolution.

. . .
A special branch inside Iran’s Foreign Ministry is responsible for assisting the Qods Force in bringing in foreign recruits. The recruits first travel to third countries where they are given new passports by Iranian agents to facilitate their entry into Iran. Upon finishing their training course, the new agents leave Iran for third countries from where they use their genuine passports to return to their countries of origin or where missions are planned.

The list of the bases used for training terrorists identified for Iran Focus are as follows:

1) Imam Ali Training Garrison, Tajrish Square, Tehran,
2) Bahonar Garrison, Chalous Street, close to the dam of Karaj,
3) Qom’s Ali-Abad Garrison, Tehran-Qom highway,
4) Mostafa Khomeini Garrison, Eshrat-Abad district, Tehran,
5) Crate Camp Garrison, 40 kilometres from the Ahwaz-Mahshar highway,
6) Fateh Qani-Hosseini Garrison, between Tehran and Qom
7) Qayour Asli Garrison, 30 kilometres from Ahwaz-Khorramshahr highway,
8) Abouzar Garrison, Qaleh-Shahin district, Ahwaz, Khuzestan province
9) Hezbollah Garrison, Varamin, east of Tehran
10) Eezeh Training Garrison
11) Amir-ol-Momenin Garrison, Ban-Roushan, Ilam province
12) Kothar Training Garrison, Dezful Street, Shoushtar, Khuzestan province
13) Imam Sadeq Garrison, Qom
14) Lavizan Training Centre, north-east Tehran
15) Abyek Training Centre, west of Tehran
16) Dervish Training Centre, 18 kilometres from the Ahwaz-Mahshar highway,
17) Qazanchi Training Centre, Ravansar-Kermanshah-Kamyaran tri-junction,
18) Beit-ol-Moqaddas University, Qom
19) Navab Safavi School, Ahwaz
20) Nahavand Training Centre, 45 kilometres from Nahavand, western Iran
so i wanted another opinion & found these dudes who say they are:

Quote:
We do not support separatism and oppose any invasion of Iran by foreign forces.

We condemn all forms of terrorism and have no links to any armed group.

however they reported (sorry, again old):

Quote:

Al-Ahwaz used as Iran's terrorist base

Al-Ahwaz (Khuzestan) is being used as a major base for terrorist attacks in Iraq, according to reports received by the British Ahwazi Friendship Society.

Documents from the Iranian regime's Fajr Garrison in Al-Ahwaz show that Tehran is employing up to 40,000 agents in Iraq. The information was revealed by former Iranian agents who defected due to pay cuts.

Fajr Garrison, near the city of Ahwaz, is the main headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in southern Iran. It hosts the IRGC's Qods Force, which runs the vast underground network in Iraq. Agents are paid by middle-men, who carry out regular visits to Ahwaz City to obtain payments and be debriefed by Qods commanders.

Reports suggest that Tehran is preparing to use the network to activate an armed uprising by insurgent groups later this year. The primary target in the Shia areas of eastern Iraq will be the British military presence in Basra, which borders Khuzestan.

Daniel Brett, Chairman of the British Ahwazi Friendship Society, said: "The Ahwazis have long been the victims of ruthless persecution and crack-downs by the IRGC and Tehran-backed militias. Now the militarisation of Ahwaz is a threat to global security.

"The demilitarisation of Khuzestan is imperative to ensure regional stability and security and protect the human rights of oppressed Ahwazi Arabs. We call upon the UN to put pressure on Iran to stop using Ahwaz to export insurgency and terrorism, to withdraw its troops from Khuzestan and back self-determination for the peace-loving Ahwazi Arabs."

can someone confirm this for me? sorry this is old, btw. and wats up with this iranfocus site? .. perhaps not all questions in that order.

This stuff is probably true. I'll be sitting back and watching with plenty of cynicism, though.

If someone were occupying Mexico, and the entire state of Texas wanted them dead, I think our government would help them get across the border.

I think Iran IS helping them, and I have no problem with that whatsoever.

This is amusing coming at the heals of AQ threatning Iran with attacks if they (Iran) don't stop supporting the Shia Iraqis.

exactly, and let's not forget, ANY guerilla group in iraqi is al-kweeda. the fact of the matter is, that there are many lines seperating or connecting any number of disparate groups. we're arming sunni insurgents who may very well be "al-qaeda" as well.

Here's a funny scenario:

The U.S. funds bin Laden back in the 80s with money and weapons to fight the Soviets. Now Iran funds al-Qaeda with weapons to fight the Americans.

Wouldn't it be incredibly ironical if in ten years al-Qaeda starts bombing shit in Iran?

actually al-qaeda is the only group besides the us govt to violate iranian sovereignty. funny how you never hear about that on the mainstream media. al-qaeda and iran have always been at odds and always will be, even if some part of the iranian government gave some group of pan-islamic leaning al-qaeda member weapons. it's like accusing the US of aiding mexico.
