Iran answers Hizbullah call for SAM systems

Iran is to supply the Islamic Resistance - the armed wing of the Lebanese Shi'ite Party of God (Hizbullah) - with a quantity of surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems over the coming months, Western diplomatic sources have confirmed to Jane's.

According to the sources, Tehran will supply Hizbullah with Russian-produced SAMs, including the Strela-2/2M (SA-7 'Grail'), Strela-3 (SA-14 'Gremlin') and Igla-1E (SA-16 'Gimlet') man-portable SAM systems.

Iran is also understood to have agreed to deliver its own version of the Chinese QW-1 man-portable low- to very-low-altitude SAM system - the Mithaq-1- developed by the Iranian Defence Ministry's Shahid Kazemi Industrial Complex in Tehran.

Iran launched a mass production line for an advanced variant, the Mithaq-2 - believed to be a short-range passive infra-red SAM - on 6 February. Both variants, believed to be based on Chinese technology, are understood to have been made available for Hizbullah.

However, Jane's understands that Hizbullah already has Iranian-supplied Strela 2s in its inventory

Israel Air Force sources say that their platforms, most notably helicopters, have encountered Strela-2 fire throughout the current conflict. Senior Israel Defence Force sources told Jane's that they believe that Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps personnel, in support of Hizbullah, were involved in these launches.

I also heard that Hezbollah has SA-7's. This will escalate rather fast when Israeli planes and copters start going down

I find the hypocracy of the U.S to be one of the most threatening and evil aspects of their culture, it's beginninga new war that will keep them on the offence and in power.

On the bright side, a lot of new inventions come about during war. Thats kinda cool.

lol, this is total BS. get the facts straight please:

the us is giving israel weapons to defend itself against the arab world. if it wasn't for the us support, israel would have been quote "wiped off the map" unquote a long time ago.

hezbollah is an arms bearing militant group, that was supplied with weapons from iran and used them to declare war on israel. using them to defend themselves from israeli airstrikes? biggest bs of your statement. tell me, how many israeli F-16's have hezbollah's rockets brought down, and how many israeli towns were hit by those?

now rethink your statement, both sides are killing civilians here, but only hezbollah is deliberately targetting them.

Again this is not true. Israel started the bombardments of lebanon, doing the best job they could in reducing the southern part to rubble and terrorizing the people living there enough so they would flee (which has worked perfectly so far).

Forget the past, right now Israel is getting most of its weapons and funds to perform their killings from the US.


In case you didnt know, the SAM sites are anti-aircraft. How exactly should you kill anybody other than an attacker with this?

Hezbollah is not deliberately targetting civilians. The problem is they dont have the money or weapons to face israel in open combat, so they have to use katyushas to kill israeli soldiers IN RETALIATION, and right now their doing a better job than the IDF. The israelis on the other hand have high-tech weapons with which they could perform pin-point strikes without their victims being 80% civilian. But since they dont give a damn and its nor in their interest, they destroy the country instead.

Your facts are not straight, they are bent and manipulated for your cause. Isreal just sealed a 3 billion dollar deal for 100 state of the art f-16s from the US right before the Lebanon war, this is more then giving weopons for defence, this is playing chess.


Isreal is deliberately killing civilians that appear to be Hezbolla sympathizers, infact isreal has killed many more civilians then Hezbolla in the last few decades.
