One of the greatest aspects to the freedom of speech that we have in US in the freedom our press has. Socialism leads to totalitarianism, which destroys freedom of the press. Without freedom of the press or a forth estate the government can manipulate its citizens much easier. It's easier to control the heard when the media is fixed to suit the needs of the government in order to brainwash. Citizens will be fed lies that further drum up support for the government controlling every movement they make.

Unlike you, most people are not obligated to defend people who supposedly represent their ideology in every decision that they make, no matter how terrible that decision is. I'm surprised that you are in favor of constitutional rights considering that you believe in NeoCon ideals, especially the patriot act. Btw, several leading Neocon thinkers are and/or have studied under socialist thinkers, the type of socialists who believe that the good of society trumps individual rights.

The only thing which comes immediately to mind is censorship of some Nazi/facist material and punishment for Holocaust denial (which IMO is utterly ridiculous). I'd say the bigger problem might be "self-imposed censorship", whereby only (or at least largely) the only views printed are politically correct ones.

Case in point, "Lilla Saltsjøbadavtalet" which was a meeting of journalists and editors in Sweden in the 80s where a decision was made to collectively underplay the negative aspects of immigration. Stuff like that is simply disgusting.

That being said, I don't think America has a moral leg to stand on in this issue. The first ammendment is a stronger guarantee for free speech than is derived from most other European constitutions, but the censorship of certain things for "moral" reasons (sex, nudity etc) is abhorrent.

After realizing how important our forefathers were to have put free-speech on the first amendment for American residents it became clear to me that they were the true revolutionaries who wanted a country for the common man free from a ruling elite. (Previous governments.)
