Global Warming and Strategy for the Near Future

My question is essentially, is global warming real enough to plan your major life decisions around?

Here is a discussion I have with a friend of mine so maybe y’all can tell me your opinions. My position is basically global warming is real and more than likely the oceans will rise at least a few feet over the next 50 to 100 years, some suggest the water will rise ten meters. Even three feet would be enough to flood a lot of low lying costal property.

My friend happens to own a home in Marin County, CA right on the SF Bay with a little dock in his back yard for a boat. He has owned it for a while and could probably sell it now for about 2.8 mil making himself a very nice profit. He is retired and does not want to move.

I think he is crazy. It might be 10 or 20 years but sooner or later people will realize that low lying costal property will be under water by the end of the century and his house will be almost worthless.

So, my argument is essentially global warming is real enough to plan your major life decisions around like not buying property on the coast.

Am I overreacting?

Eh, maybe a little, just because a rise in sea levels is still not in the near future. But, the major "life changing" issues we are faced with today would be fuel efficiency. Time to trade in the gas hogs.

Why must we be subjected to your dumb?

You realize New Orleans was built BELOW FUCKING SEA LEVEL don't you? Global Warming didn't fuck up New Orleans....dumbfuck city planning did. Who builds on land that is BELOW FUCKING SEA LEVEL, RIGHT NEXT TO THE FUCKING SEA? If New Orleans teaches us anything, it is make sure you build on land that doesn't have a minus sign next to it when talking about elevation.

no dipshit New Orleans SUNK below sea level. and its a pretty old fucking city, and part of the soul of this country. Hurricane Katrina was a category 3-5 storm that displayed what nature can do. if you had a fucking sense to learn about climate change and learn that something like the top 10 hottest days on record have all occurred in the last 10 years.

What about the bajillion days that aren't on record?

You have proof that says NO has sunk? I have proof that Levies were breached causing sea water to go above around and through the levys, thereffore flooding the whole city. God you are fucking stupid.

Nature has been destroying shit way before we were ever around...Nature does what nature wants to do....we as humans are vulnerable to this force asshat......Neither Al Gore, nor you can prevent hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wildfires, or bright 72* sunny ass days.

Over the next 100 years, some more locations will eventually have to implement engineering measures like the Netherlands. If our worst theories are correct.

*Yawn*
