Oh shit, my post had it backwards, let me go back and edit. What I meant to say was that they DON'T have the authority to marry people religiously, but they DO have the power to grant civil contracts. My mistake on that one.

How does creating a second/lower class of non married marriage help the institution of marriage? Maybe more straights will go for civil unions if they r avail?

And (not aimed at this post) WhyTF does government have to be involved in tradition?

Legal rights of a committed couple should be the same regardless of a little fudge being packed. Marriage should be left up to a partic religion. States should have civil unions and that is it. Why should gov't bestow one set of rights on one couple and a different one on another? And don’t give me the “make a child crap” unless we are going to barr couples with no kids from marriage.

Some of you pple are so worried about these promiscuous gays that you would do anything to keep them that way.
