MMA is NOT war.
I'm getting a little fed up with fighters saying "It's going to be a war", or "I'm going to war", or just referring to mma as war in general, because it's not. I'm a Marine who's been to war, and I've also started training in mma. I know that if I'm fighting someone, chances are that I'm not going to die. I'm not going to get shot. I'm not going to get blown up. You can't even begin to compare the two. When I think of war, I think of the worst times in my life. When I think of mma, I think of some of the best times of my life. I fight because I enjoy it. Nobody enjoys war. In Iraq, I didn't enjoy wondering if I'd get to wake up the next day. I didn't enjoy getting shot at, and sure as hell didn't enjoy getting blown up by road side bombs. I respect fighters for what they do, because not everyone can do it, but I feel fighters should have the same respect for their vets when it comes to comparing a war to a fight like they have been to war. Yes, some have, but those are not the same guys that compare the two. Someone that's actuaaly seen war would never say that. So, to the fighters who want to still compare the two, do me a favor and join the military, after you do a few tours let me know if you still want to call a fight a war.

That's my whole point, the ****phor needs to stop. I think it needs to be taken more seriously. It's not just mma, it's other sports too. I've gotten in plenty of bar fights but because of that I've never gone out and said, hey, I got in a fight, I'm in the UFC, I'm a pro fighter. While on the other hand, we've got fighters and football players calling themselves soldiers. I think giving your life for your country is the ultimate sacrifice. What's wrong with showing respect for that?

lol...you have some issues. Did anyone force you to join the marines and go to war? who asked for that war?
get off your high horse. its a ****phor. if someone calls me a lion on the mat, should lions start complaining? telling me how, in the jungle, its really tough - nothing like the mat? how can I be a lion when thousands of lions are out in the heat looking for food?
seriously, get over yourself.

Go ahead and look up what a soldier is while you're at it. This isn't even about me. I'm not on a high horse. This has nothing to do with me joining the Marines or what this war is about. I just think it's about respect. Not for me, but for the military in general.

sorry, but just because you've been there and done that doesn't mean you own the word.
fighters who step into the ring or cage and put their bodies on the line with physical violence deserve more than any other sport to call their contest a "war."
I'm not going to berate you because 1) you're a fellow marine and 2) you've seen things that 99.99999% of people will never see, but you can't sit there and get upset over a common sports idiom that just so happens to parallel something terrible that you've encountered in your life.
what about mixed martial artists that are former servicemen? are they allowed to use the "war" ****phor for their matches? what about mixed martial artists that are police officers? they get shot at. can they use "war?"
think about how silly you sound.
respect to you for your service... but don't demand pity. serve proud and let the mental midgets argue semantics and colloquialisms.
