Economy or enviroment?

Do you think a governments obligation to promote economic development should take precedence over its obligation to protect the environment? We were discussing this in Debate today and I can't believe how many people sided on the economic view point. My stance was that protecting the environment is at the same time protecting the economy in the long run...what do you guys think?

Economy.

A country can survive with a horrible environment, not a horrible economy.

And you need to expand your last statement. I'll take a stab, yes, we should be drilling more and building refineries.

Well, if the enviroment goes to shit than the economy is going to subsequently go to shit as well as a result...there are lots of different scenarios but I'll take the most popular one in global warming, if hypothetically man-made global warming is a real threat, than entire climates will changes resulting in massive losses in farming around the world...also wool sweater makers will go out of business and I don't think anybody wants that to happen...(especially carlton from the fresh prince haha)

Can you elaborate on your response as well please? I actually have to write a paper on this so I'm trying to get as many view points/facts/perspectives as possible

The global warming scam is hilarious. I am all for electric cars, solar energy and alternate fuel sources, but if that was the ultimate goal of this environmental bullshit I would be on board. The ultimate goal is a global CO2 tax which only subjugates the poorest people and increases their burden. Fuck the environment.

Wealth is the tool which gives us the ability to worry about things like 'environment'.

-It's basically the same as boob jobs - When a chicks scraping out of a dumpster, she doesn't have the means to worry about cup size - give her a sugar daddy and a few thousand bucks ->>>> FAKE TITS

FAKE TITS = ENVIRONMENT

P.S. Rum & Coke: Thanks for asking...

People are short sided and stupid. Global warming is irrelevant. If the food we eat makes people sick and the water is full of chemicals then the economy will suffer. If the air is polluted people will have health issues. If you want long term economic viability you need to incur short term environmental costs.
