Dogfighting should NOT be a Federal crime.

I don't believe that dogfighting should be a Fed crime this is an issue for the States. Also why is it a Fed Felony to fight dogs but not bears, chickens, insects, fish etc.? I have been to dog fights and I don't like them but I also don't like chicken, spider and fish fights all things I have seen or been to as well. What is the reason for only making dogfighting a Federal felony crime and not other types of animal fighting? The US Constitution leaves this to the States and that's where it should have stayed.

I'm with you, but we are in the minority. People get so damn emotional over dogs. The US is getting too soft.

Like a month ago or something me and my friend were going for a walk around his apartment complex at like three in the morning or something because, like every Saturday night, we were broke as hell and bored. And the complex has a lot of stray cats and we freaked out cause we heard what sounded like a child with an unusually deep voice for his age humming or groaning or something. So we turned around and these two cats were like three inches from each other's faces just staring at each other. And they both had large red blotches on their bodies which we realized when we got closer were strips where the fur and skin had been ripped out and a huge scab had formed. So they're like right next to each other and we thought they were going to have sex but instead they like clinched with each other and bit each other so they weren't making much of a noise except thrashing all over the pavement and clumps of fur were flying through the air. It was really disturbing.

I know this probably would have been a better post for OT but this thread just reminded me of that.

This is def. a States Rights issue and the people of the States should decide what Laws their States should have. If a State makes it a felony another State might have it legal. I know that dogfighting and chicken fighting were legal in Virginia (where Vick's house was) only a few years ago. As long as no gambling was involved the animal fights could go on.

ABC news reports its a Federal crime and a felony in 48 States ; "While dogfighting is a federal crime, many experts say that state laws, which are usually used to prosecute cases, are just not strict enough to shut the industry down." End Quote. CBS news says the same thing.

I repeat Dog Fighting is not a Federal crime. This is a State's issue, and every state has declared dog fighting a criminal offense. 48 States have declared it a felony while Idaho and Whyoming are the only States still considering it a misdemeanor.
