So because he points out that people universally abhor violence yet points out that there are people that enjoy violence i am somehow avoiding the point? doesn't this sound ridiculous to you? ffs...

You're missing the point again, if you were being tortured or raped, you really would have no right to complain because you don't think there are any moral absolutes. Therefore why should there even being retribution on those who carry out heinous crimes?

he dismissed 99% of a persons post and than mentally omits items in order to make his counter-argument seem valid.

he did it earlier by trying to say to you that countries fight wars and thats condoning murder which bolterred his position. but sane, intelligent people know death in war is not the same as murder. killing and murdering are two entirely different things.

now he omits shit from my post and says romans loved murder. but my most says A) soveriengn societies in 2008, and B) wanton murder and violence on "innocent citizens".

He chose to omit those parts becuase they conflict with his rebuttal. if not omited he cannot use the roman gladiator analogy.

and than he tries to equate a deranged serial killer with society in order to bolster his argument that society has no morals. as if society are all of the same ilk as deranged serial killers. any sane, intelligent person would know that society is not made up of deranged serial killers.

this guy can only be insane or possesed, the only other answer is he is doing tis t cause confusion and or increase his post count.

i personally witness so many posts he makes like this that i sincerely think, regardless of his intentions, it amounts to nothing more than trolling and baiting.

I basically have him blocked (i dont know why he still reads my posts) i suggest you block him too. you'll get nothing from him but more confusion.

I don't think it's a wind up technique.

He accepts that certain people have to rationalize certain behaviour. This can be defined as people justifying actions that aren't related to reality.

We would call this reality our innate conscience that we are born with, and ofcourse it can develope.

We're not arguing that all moral dilemmas can be ascertained from our innate moral conscience, some morals are learned from exterior sources. I believe Sigmund Freud thought all of our senses of morality was learned from exterior sources.

Someone like Dawkins or other evolutionary biologist's believe our moral conscience is necessary for self preservation(the selfish gene) and that in principle would mean that some morals could be considered universal.

Just because the Romans occasionally enjoyed a bit of the ol' ultra-violence does not therefore mean that they opted to live in a society absent of order and social contract. They, like all cultures, had a value system that, at the very least, included their own countrymen. I also have no qualms about us, looking back from our 21st century perch, decrying their practice of slavery and forced gladiator bouts. I don't believe this criticism to be erroneous in the least. It doesn't take a whole lot of mental gymnastics or religion (well maybe it does) to simply recognize that it is better to live amongst people whose self-interests and autonomy are valued. This is basically the golden rule you spoke highly of before yes? This concept is the foundation for not only multiple systems of ethics but for things like game theory, evolutionary ethics, capitalism, Marxism, etc.
