"To believe Iran would use nuclear weapons to attack Israel, or anyone, "amounts to assuming that Iran's leaders are insane" and that they look forward to being reduced to "radioactive dust," strategic analyst Leonard Weiss observes, adding that Israel's missile-carrying submarines are "virtually impervious to preemptive military attack," not to speak of the immense U.S. arsenal. "
This statement was pretty silly to me considering the huge number of suicide bombers coming out of this region. Their people are clearly insane enough to strap bombs to their chest and blow up an a room full of innocents. What makes their leaders any different? Aren't their leaders elected from the ranks of their people? The same people with a predisposition for suicide attacks?
I guess we'll just shove our heads up our asses and hope none of their insane people gets elected and decides to "Suicide bomb" NYC with a nuke.

Chomsky loves all of the people of the earth, IF theyre in some downtrodden third world dictatorship funk.
I assume from this he plays a mean hand of squash with Castro and the like.

Aren't our leaders elected from we the people. There are American soldiers/Americans who will risk all for their fellow countrymen, doesn't mean our leaders will do the same. Look at the Chicken Hawks who trumpted the Iraq war.
Huge number of suicide bombers coming out of a region is way too broad and all encompassing a statement, when was the last time Iranians dispatched suicide bombers. The only close example I can think of is the Iran-Iraq war where Iranian soldiers were reputed to go on what was essentially suicide missions. You could find similar instances in WW2 from allies or axis too.
Leaders of Iran like most any leader are primarily concerned about survival and power, don't expect them to sacrifice in the same manner as the rank and file Iranian. These leaders didn't become leaders by acting suicidal.
People pushing the ridiculous idea that some Iranian gov operation is going to suicide bomb America or Israel are either delusional or intentionally fear mongering and playing up a non existent threat to justify their an attack or whatever actions.

I hate that attitude. "The arab nations wouldnt even consider using nukes, that would be like blowing yourself up!"

Yeah, being widely regarded as the leading intellectual of the time definitely makes his thoughts irrelevant.
You sad pieces of right-wing trash need to learn to open your eyes (note: this is not a statement against conservatives/republicans/any other right party, just the blind idiots)

Translation: What?!? Someone doesnt agree with the fuhror!!! OMG someone else out there might disagree with Glenn Beck too????! What kind of world do we live in!!!
I expected one of you Chomcockers to chime in, hence why I chose to post in brash manner.
Ive read about thirty of fourty of Chomskys peices. It was the 'in' thing to do in high school within the debate circles. I used to really get into this guys peices and used to repeat it myself. Id even emailed him once and got a nice reply. Seems like a good neighbor type.
This was of course before I chose the 'open minded' route and read from more than just Noam. When Id branched out into reading from guys who arent anti-military and might believe that America needs a national defense.
Shocking. I know. Conservatives might actually choose what represents their own reality, and mightve, *shutter*, actually read from guys like Chomsky. OH NOES.

If you're going to be sensitive you might want to find another forum. Chomsky is completely out of touch.
