Chechen Rebel Leader,Shamil Basayev, Dies in Truck Blast

MOSCOW (AP) -- Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev, responsible for modern Russia's worst terrorist attacks, was killed Monday when a dynamite-laden truck exploded in his convoy, Russian officials said.

The Russian agents exploded a truck bomb next to several cars in which Basayev and other rebels were riding, according to Interfax, which was quoting Ingush Deputy Prime Minister Bashir Aushev.

This truely shows how thin of a line there is between freedom fighter and terrorist!! Yeah its been said before, but this shows it i think. Or does everyone on here think the Chechenya rebels are nothing but terrorists?

First of all I think that Chechen rebels are nothing but terrorists, and I am from that area. But regardless of the fact whether you think that about all Chechen rebels or not, this guy is certainly the worst piece of terrorist scum who stepped foot on this earth. He tortured and beheaded civilians on camera before it became fashionable, he took hospital and its patients hostage, under his direct supervision the hostage attacks on the Moscow theater and the school in Beslan were executed, where about 300 school children lost their lives. Even in Chechnya he undertook some savage acts against the civilians who would not offer him unconditional support and asked him and his gangs to leave their villages.

So in a sense it is similar to Al-Zarqawi situation. Whether you support the Iraq war or not, or think that all Iraqi opposition are insurgents or terrorists, there is no denying that Al Zarqawi was a terrorist scum who got what he deserved. Same for Basayev. I for one, feel that the air on this earth just got a lot cleaner with this creature gone to face the ultimate justice.

yep they are nothing but terrorists, people like you don't even comprehend what the conflict is about. Chechenya would gain nothing from an independance, unless you would like there to be a pro taliban regime running the government and then funneling money towards terrorist groups. Chechens are trained by Al queda and frequently have taliban in their ranks. Also if they werent blowing shit up and killing people then the Russian government would have to take such extreme measures at fighting them in Chechnya.
