caught two kids snooping in a neighbours toolshed...*long*
last saturday night i figured id go to bed early so i could wake up at 6am sunday to watch the San Marino Grand Prix. i hit the sack about 11pm or so. it was windy as shit outside, figure a storm might be coming in, no big deal.
i wake to hear shit blowing around outside, and i thought for a second i could hear the springs on our trampoline bouncing. were some kids on it? is it the wind? i wasnt sure, and as i was closing my eyes ready to ignore it i hear THUMP! so right there i think that maybe some kids are getting into shit in my backyard, or some lawn furniature blew over. i peek out the blinds to see whats up, and in the shadows i can see something big a white just outside my fence, and two figures walk away.
right there i figured some kids were being dumb so i better go hassle them to clean up and move along, so i toss on some shorts and a tee shirt and go down the stairs and outside into the backyard. i thought about waking my dad to see if he'd help me check if anything was broken or missing, but i said fuck it he'll probably be pissed off it it turns out it was just the wind.
i get outside and low and behold the white thing i saw from my window was a street hockey net, lying on the ground. its not mine, probably a neighbours kids, but it was obvious those figures i saw from the window tossed it here. i didnt see them around so i started walking towards the direction i saw them moving. it was windy and cold as shit, which i guess was good because soon i caught sight of two kids about 30 paces ahead of me just walking. i was going to catch up and make them clean up and ask them whats up, but before i could catch up they turn and hop a fence into a yard about 9 houses down.
shit.
well they didnt hear me chasing them cause of the wind, but no longer was it about going to ask those kids to put shit away and move along, it was see what these fuckers do next. i come around a hedge to see two kids head deep in a toolshed in a backyard. without even thinking i hop the fence and get about 10 feet away before yelling "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING BACK HERE!!?!?!?" the kids freeze and had no time before i grab them both with my iron judo grip on the back of the collars of thier coat/shirt. then they knew shit hit the fan. im way bigger then these kids are, easily in thier teens and im hollaring after catching them red handed snooping in someones property. they start stammering "who are you? whats wrong? we're looking for our friends house? do you know whos hosue this is? this is a mistake!" and i knew they were full of shit. there are no kids thier age in the area that would be thier friends, plus why would they be in the shed. so i lead these kids back to the hockey net and say "you bastards are gonna clean all this shit up" so i hold onto one kid and let the other kid go so he could put everything away. i tell the loose kid "just think about taking off. you think your buddy here wont tell me your name if you do? he'll sing like a canary" after they put everything back i grab them both again while they whine and complain that "man jsut let us go we didnt do anything. man dont you got anything better to do than pick on kids?" and i say "sure i do. i should be in bed at 1am sleeping, not out here freezing my ass off chasing you little pricks around."
i take them to the peoples house whose shed they were in, and ring the bell. the lady of the house comes down the stairs and from behind the door she says "who is it?" and i say "i live down the street i caught some kids in your shed out back." and she says "im calling the police"
the kids shit a brick.
soon her husband comes down and opens the door and recognizes me. i explain what happened and they lay into these kids, giving them a rought time like they deserve. the kids try to BS thier way out but these folks aint having any of it. they had kids, they know its all shit. they tell the kids "we should call the police right now..." and the kids are like "no no no..." and then the lady says "but instead im calling your parents" and the kids go "NO NO PLEASE DONT!"
sure enough we get one kids dad on the phone, i give him a rundown and he says "ill be there right away" sure enough like 2 minutes later he was at the peoples house. he was not impressed. not one bit. he apologizes and says he'll take care of this. the kids leave with the dad. the lady of the house turns to her husband, pointing to me, "get this young man a beer, come inside and tell us all about what happened."
good times. its been an hour since i got up.
the next day, the dad and the kid come back to both our houses and the kid apologizes, and gives me a written letter of apology. he was 15 years old, his dad seemed like a straight up guy, he did the same thing my dad would have done. i think the kid was legitimatly sorry and i think he knows to keep his nose clean for a long time to come. we've all been teenagers, i think he really is a good kid he just made a dumb mistake and got caught, bottom line.
i made this thread not as some self ego masturbation, but more or less to tell you, before this happened i was like 99% of other people, my attiude was "if i ever caught some little punks in my yard id fucking kill them blah blah blah" but once it happened, its really different. sure, if these buggers tried something id have dropped them both, but i think they were so scared shitless they did whatever i told them to do.
you dont have time to think, you kinda go with the flow. im glad i resolved it the way i did and im damn sure these kids learned a valuable lesson. i dont hate these kids, i dont wish they were dead, i really think they just made a dumb mistake. we all do. its part of growing up. he'll learn from it, and ive even learned from it.
