Border agents fail to spot fake papers.

US Border agents failed to spot fake papers form other Gov. officials who were using them. Read more here http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060802/...der_insecurity . It has been almost 5 years since Sept. 11th and we still can't stop people with fake papers from getting into this country? What a crock. At least 2 of the highjackers used fake papers (from Virginia) to get legal documents here in the US and still nothing has been done. I still think nothing would have been done if the Feds didn't want to make a new Fed ID system. For those Voting for the Repubs have they really made you safer?

Here is a C & P from the link: "By comparison, between February and June 2006, 18 GAO investigators breezed by border agents at checkpoints in California, Texas, Michigan, Idaho, Washington state, and twice each in Arizona and New York. In two cases — in Arizona and California — border agents did not ask the undercover investigators for any identification.

In a third case, in Texas, investigators offered to show identification — a counterfeit Virginia drivers' license. The border agent replied, "OK, that would be good," but released the investigators before inspecting it, according to the prepared testimony by GAO investigator Gregory D. Kutz." Can you believe border agents not asking for any ID at all? This stuff is BS and should show most that the Feds are failing at this. Maybe it's time for each border State to take control of its own borders.

You do realize that most Arabs are not Muslim and most Muslims are not Arab looking. profiling will get us into trouble as Richard Reed didn't look Muslim or Arab.

As a former border agent assigned to the jewel that is El Paso *sarcasm off* I can tell you the problem with the border is that most of the agents are all named Jimenez, Rodriguez, or Cortez and are from the border.

Flame me if you'd like but I saw it with my own eyes. The people not from the border that get assigned there don't stay long since it is such a dump and the holes are just filled with more Dominguez's.

To be honest though, its not all these guys fault. They have to enforce immigration and customs laws both of which are comprehensive. They are also cross-trained to enforce laws dealing with Agriculture , Fish and Widlife, narcotics interdiction, Dept of Transportation, terrorist watch lists, weapons of mass destruction, embargos, human smuggling.

All of this while looking up the bridge with literally thousands of cars and people waiting for entry many of which simply lie about meaningless things due to the culture that they are accustomed to which slows down the entry process further. When the line backs up too much complaints are made to local mayors and various port directors who then make inspectors speed up the entry process leading to mistakes.

I've said it before. The average person has NO idea what goes on down on the border. It is immensely fucked up.

Why? Most of you bastards are too damn paranoid. How many attacks prior to 9/11? One that really mattered? How many since? None? You think it's because of what the white house has done? If so you're shitting yourself. They could completely open the border and it wouldnt increase our chances of being attacked here one damn bit.

It seems the only way to be safe is to close the border 100% to all people. This is impossible, that is why the USA started a crazy war they can't finish.

Very good info. The Feds think commerce is more important than safety.
