They need to do a clean sweep of that entire departments command staff which obviously promoted this meathead culture.

The problem with the system now is that they actually train these guys this way. They also have psych tests and targetting practices where they target individuals like this for hire. It's not hard to get a job being a cop if you just got back from a war zone in Iraq. Another great example is FEMA. They have dozens and dozens of convicted felons that they brought on as federal police.
Then there is just the general attitude with the media, the dumbed-down population, and the equipment these guys have. The protestors are getting more and more docile than ever before. The cops are getting more and more aggressive.
Even this thread, where the thread starter points out clear abuse, he still boils it down into "right vs. left" etc. A few years back there was that case where all the abortion protestors were handcuffed and then had night sticks put through their handcuffs and were carried away, breaking all the bones in their wrists and hands. We are being squeezed from both sides here and everyone is losing. This is not a right vs. left issue, it's a human issue.

Good post, and point taken. There are instances of the police beating up on right-wing protestors, agreed. But there are probably many times more of instances AGAINST the left than AGAINST the right. Personally, I think this is due to the fact that most police officers, most law enforcement officers tend to be right-wing and leaning toward authoritarian. It would then make sense that they would be harder on leftists.
If you look at the RNC vs. DNC protests, the right wing protestors faced almost no repurcussions or violence at the DNC event. The left wing protestors in NYC were locked in a cage, and weren't even able to perform a proper protest. They were maced and arrested for NO REASON. THere were hundreds of people "rounded up" without cause, simply because they were in the streets. This did not happen to the Republicans.
Ill add my quote from above:

I think they were even yelling "Hoo-ra!" or something to that effect. I have never seen a police dept do that.

ok, i realize i'm going to be the jerk here but i'm not saying it was ok....i'm simply saying this:
she was involved in a protest...i don't know if it was peacful i wasn't there but at any rate riot police showed up...they were walking toward her in an obviously aggressive manner...she turned and started mouthing them...if she wasn't taunting them and didn't expect to be shot why was she hiding behind her sign? why did she cower behind it? maybe i just need to watch it again cuz i am not seeing the same thing everyone else did
but all i am saying is common sense tells you...no matter who is right or wrong....the same thing always happens when unarmed people stand up against armed people....if i were involved in a protest and the cops advanced and I continued (and even yelled at them and walked toward them) I would assume I were about to have force used against me...i'm not saying its right...but its going to happen
i'll watch the video again...i might have missed the sequence of events

It looks really bad though imho. I usually have the utmost respect for law enforcement, well except when i got pulled over awhile ago on a D.W.B.(you know Driving While Black), back in southern ohio.
Oh and Tequilla way to mix police brutality and authoriative society's on conservatives and the bush administration. Once again i was wondering , and worried how you were going to tie this with the current administration and Bush/republicans, but you again pulled it off with ease Well done sir.

why do black people always have to blame their blackness for getting pulled over for no reason... it happens to me all the damn time...
