WarRoom! Educate me! Propaganda... what is it?
IMO, i've seen this term thrown around a billion and one times.... most commonly, if you agree w/ "something", it is fact... if you disagree w/ it, it is "propaganda".... if you are the minority, your view is true and the other is conspiracy.... if you are the majority, the opposition is silly propaganda...
so, War Room. tell me your thoughts!

Dictionary definition propaganda doesn't have a positive or a negative connotation. Its just information put out by any source, for or against an issue.
But, since information put out by the state or special interest is seldom unbiased the dictionary definition is far from the literal meaning. Propaganda is information used to persuade a target audience into perceiving reality in such a way as to benefit yourself.

Propaganda is just "Effort directed systematically toward the gaining of public support for an opinion or a course of action."- Propaganda pg. 49
Propaganda can be used for good or bad.. Check out Edward Bernays, he is considered the "father of public relations".

From my experience, the word "propaganda" has been synonymous with "intentional lies" for awhile. However, there can be such a thing as "good, truthful propaganda."
Basically, propaganda is just the deliberate spread of information or ideas for a cause. Obviously, this applies to war rumors, church teachings and hate speech/rumors. But, a group of math teachers going town to town, telling people the importance of math for future careers, are also "spreading propaganda."
Lableling something a politician or pundit says as "propaganda" is very redundant. It's similar to saying, "that's just their opinion." Obviously......
Most of the time, people on here don't actually like to get down to the nitty-gritty and actually argue with the ideas, thoughts, and facts that others are trying to propagate. Instead, they label it with an ambiguous and redundant term in an attempt to sound intelligent, but without being held to any definite point.
As for myself, I'll continue to spread free-market, libertarian propaganda.

Ya, check it out... The book is actually called "Propaganda" written by Edward Bernays and was published in 1928 as a manual of mass manipulation. He is the nephew of Sigmund Freud.

Propaganda is something they only do overseas.
Always listen to the underlying theme of any story. I know that sounds obvious enough but take for example of something as Highly charged as Nationalised Health Care for the U.S....that should be a good stomping ground for anyone wanting to learn something about how an issue can be so twisted around (Frankly I really enjoy working full time as an RN--I really really enjoy working full time to pay for the best health care in the world for the retired and welfared while the coverage I pay for has large gaps in coverage).
Look for the timing of stories or even better what story gets the coverage while another story gets the shade. A recent example is the fifty shots fired by the NY Police officers...their subsequent aquittal and the fact that the two black officers who also fired were never brought up on charges...look into it...the info might not be so easy to find but its there and proves the fact that what isnt covered is almost more important than what is covered.
Its interesting to not that most of the cable TV shows share the opinion that the recent jack up in the price of oil has alot more to do with China and India coming online than any other factor. They would all like you and me to forget that the recent devaluation of the dollar accounts for about %50 of the increase in the price of oil....its propaganda that they dont cover some of the most obvious FACTS.
