Am I the only one who is sickened by the constant "Support the troops" rhetoric?
Now, I'm not referring to the actual notion of "supporting the troops"; I'm talking about all these phonies everywhere putting on a fake face and making some generic matter-of-fact claim of their undying appreciation of America's armed forces.
Everyone from politicians to the media, commoners and our very own MMA fighters. Everywhere you look there's another talking head robotically regurgitating some form of "I support the troops and appreciate you all for fighting for our way of life." The problem I have with all this is the insincerity of it all, the insidious nature in which it has permeated our consciousnesses, where people are only saying it because either they've been forced to feel obligated or they want to look good in front of everybody.
To be honest I really don't think about our troops overseas and I can't even recall the last time I felt a glimmer of appreciation for them. Am I saying that to insult them or express my disdain? No, I'm being truthful. Going about in my everyday life (which said troops are arguably over there fighting for), I never think about what they're doing. And even when I sit down and think about it, I still really don't care. Maybe I'm jaded, apathetic or just ignorant, but it is what it is. And I'm sure there are many out there who feel the same way whether they want to admit it or not.

No, I am utterly sick of it as well and not for the core and traditional meaning. Presently, it has come to mean support the White House in it's decisions regarding the military and lost all sight of supporting the safety and interests of the troops. Putting troops in harm's way for hollow and useless causes is not supporting the troops but of course if you don't tow the line, then you apparently automatically want the troops to perish in harm's way.

I can appreciate your honesty. I'm sure there are some people who won't but, it's important to speak your mind regardless of the response.

Yeah, less talk more action. You guys can start by sending me another EVGA Geforce 8800GTX so I can run SLI on this rig.

To support the troops in America is a given, it's like someone at the college campus wearing the home team shirt. . . it's redundant at best and pandering at worst.
I'd love to see someone get up and decry the troops as hired professional killers and empty political pawns, just as a nice change of pace.

Only in a place like America today or Nazi Germany of yesteryear can sending your soldiers off to die for the benefit of an elite minority is deemed a support of the military. Last time I checked, haplessly deploying your military and using resources overseas unnecessarily is what ended most empires.

Mere lip service is retarded. If you're not proactive about actually doing something for the troops gtfo
