So, since you say I have a "hatred for the truth", then please, with all your college student wisdom, inform this 15 year metro police veteran of "the truth" of what would happen if every cop and soldier layed down their guns tomorrow and said "F it, I quit". No cops. No soldiers for martial law. What happens Please, your professors have obviously enlightened you about these topics far more in your classroom than I could ever learn from 15 years on the street, so HELP me learn the truth.

Both sides of the argument are stupid. We won't go into a complete state of chaos, and we won't have a lack of change in crime. Crime will go up, that is obvious.

He's just a young college kid who hasn't hit the real world yet. My post was a bit hyped, a bit sarcastic, but was just a response to the severe cop hating on another thread. If all our cops quit tomorrow, I think the first few weeks would be OK because of the shock factor. Americans wouldn't quite know what to do different, if anything. But, once the criminals, the greedy and the desperate realized it was safe to act however one wanted- it would absolutely IMO cause a chaotic society. Money would be useless as theft would no longer be punished.

Basically, a copless society would depend on the good faith of humanity to keep the peace among itself. Look at examples throughout history and current events where a population has no police. Where did peace ensue?

I think perhaps people are too diverse to be classified like this. Perhaps their upbringing is what brings criminals to violence, or biological or chemical problems, but it is the desire for action and violence that brings cops and criminals to relate to each other in my opinion. They are simply fighting for different things, but to the same effect, ultimately, self gratification. Wether they gratify themselves through "fighting bad guys" or "fighting good guys", it will ultimately be for themselves, but because they are so self righteous, they wont realize it.

Perhaps the true "dogs" in your analogy are the doctors, nurses, firefighters, the people who actually do live to help others and not to gratify their own needs.

Thats a damn good point. Agree completely. A cop must be a bit "off" to put on a vest, gun, badge, go into bad neighborhoods almost always alone, with backup nearby though, and enforce laws on strangers who are often armed and desperate, work insane hours, and be bitten, stabbed, pissed on, have people shit in the car, puke in it, shoot at us and be despised by a significant % of soceity.....and all for a starting salary of 30-45K. And to keep doing it out of "duty".

In that example, you are right. The wolf and dog are more closely related than either to the sheep. Which is why a sheep hates the dog, but needs him to survive.

What the hell is the point of this thread? There are a lot of jobs that our society needs to function effectively. What if all doctors quit? What if all farmers quit? This can go on and on.

But that doesn't mean people can't dislike the police. Of course not. There are people that don't like doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc. but they understand that, at some level, those jobs are necessary for a modern, well-functioning society.

In that example, you are right. The wolf and dog are more closely related than either to the sheep. Which is why a sheep hates the dog, but needs him to survive.

But another problem is that even a "sheep" or a non violent non criminal person can be driven to violence and to defend himself if necessary. This is why everyone didn't kill each other off before modern society. People aren't so defenseless as you make them sound.

Imagine if those dirt poor countries also had neighborhoods of extreme wealth and a culture of greed and selfishness instead of survival. Like America does. Think those middle class and wealthy would become targets of the dirt poor and desperate? Of course. Think some of the greedy people who were already middle class or wealthy would take advantage of a no-consequence society and get more material or sexual gratification through force and survival of the fittest? I'd bet they would.
