This is my reason for refusing to recite it. Not that I am ever in a situation where I would have to recite it.

Actually our primary education is considered OK, it is secondary education where we go down the toilet.

Also standing for the pledge is more for respect to others than to the school or its rules. If i go to a boxing match in LA and they play the Mexican national anthem i stand and keep my mouth shut. Its just polite.

Glad they didn't stand. You can't force someone to do that and I don't care if you're an American or not. If I was a citizen of a different country and they wanted me to do something I didn't want to do, fuck em. Plus the Pledge of Allegience implies America is under the Christian "God" which is BS as well.. There are other religions here. Might as well say, "one nation, under Allah".. Guarantee you guys wouldn't be standing for that ;)

That makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider that we choose where we're born, and that dirt has mystical properties.

i hope the disrespectful shits get hit by a bus...

that being said... they shouldn't be suspended for not standing. that would be stiffling their constitutional right to be dumbasses... i mean freedom of speech...

still, hopefully their class mates throw rocks at them and stomp on their testicles at recess.

If you wish to protest fine. But when your country asks you to step up, you'd better be the first to say "ME".

Not this freakin tea sipping, cheese eating, New york times reading mentality of protesting everything the U.S. stands for, then shying away when it's time to pay Uncle Sam your part to do just that.

I hadn't considered that arguement. The United States has no official language nor religion, so what would the reaction be if a muslim wanted to replace the English word for god with their own?

It's not just the English word - One nation under God implies the CHRISTIAN God which is bullshit.. I'm christian myself but I don't thikn it's right we make people stand when a religious figure is implied in the pledge
