The reason is quite simple: people who express the popular viewpoint usually don't need the protection of freedom of speech. It's the people that express unpopular viewpoints that need their speech protected and it is the people who express unpopular viewpoints that are labeled "douche bags." So that's why you see douche bags in so many free-speech cases.

My only concern is if everyone HAS to do it, then it is not really genuine for those who want to choose to do it.

It was first demonstrated on October 12, 1892 according to Bellamy's published instructions for the "National School Celebration of Columbus Day":
The initial military salute was replaced with a hand-on-heart gesture, followed by the extension of the arm as described by Bellamy. Because of the similarity of this arm extension to the Hitler salute, the Bellamy salute was widely replaced around 1942 with the modern gesture of placing the hand over the heart without raising the arm.[citation needed] In 1943, the Daughters of the American Revolution, initially resistant to the change, endorsed the hand-on-heart gesture during the Pledge.[1]"
Try to do some research before posting here, son.

your original post insinuated that america was similar to hitler's regime.
this post proves that in trying to distance ourselves from him because of his actions, we are not.

Looking at your previous posts, it's not surprising that a basic high-school literary reference would fiy right over your head.

Well its seems like we demanded and fought England, and forced them to respect us and our independence. So I guess I dont agree with you. If it wasnt for the force, we would have had no respect , and we would be kissing Englands rings.

This argument makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Colonists at that time were subjects of the king and were supposed to pay him allegiance. There would have been no independence at all if colonists hadn't stood up to the British forces, who demanded their loyalty by force.
