Yes you should be respectful to your country regardless of where you are. But religion is a VERY touchy subject these days.
It's like asking Native Americans to celebrate Columbus day or Thanksgiving when we all knew Columbus discovered America, but he ALSO slaughtered many indians.

Why are YOU missing the point? Standing does not denote believing in the ideology! Standing is merely respect. As Daruckus pointed out, bowing your head if in a Muslim household does not equal praying to Allah! It is merely being respectful of you hosts. A Ram Muay dance in Muay thai is all about respect. You dont have to agree with the whos or why, it being respectful.

Im not religious in the least but GOD doesnt equal catholocism... GOD is represenative of all religions not just one...
And for the atheists, to bad for them if they dont like the word God they just dont have to say that word... Case closed... Whats the problem..
The problem is people want to be difficult and stir a commotion because their bored....

No. The pledge of allegiance's "GOD" is implying the Christian god. That's what all the fuss has been about with people of Islam. Not all religions have one "God" or a "god".

What to respect or not respect is a value-driven decision. First, your comparisons between respecting foreign anthems and cultures isn't a very good comparison. This is an American choosing not to engage in an American practice. Then you mentioned other people's home which I think we all agree isn't comparable to this case at all. Secondly, while it can be unprofessional and disrespectful to not stand for foreign anthems, I fully respect the right of an American not to stand without having to worry about punishment from a government authority. You might be socially-looked down upon or punished by a private employer, but not from a government entity.
And as an aside, I can think of quite a few foreign government anthems that I wouldn't stand up for.
