Why is Oscar still fighting?

Seems every fighter is exactly the same. They just don't learn from history. They make millions. They piss it away like water. They pimp their name. They fight till there is nothing left. By their mid 40s they are complete wrecks both physically & mentally, and end up a stumbling, bumbling, idiot, without a friend in the world. Oscar is heading down that path. What a fool.

I wouldn't say that about him yet. His skills have eroded yes, but he's only 33 and still very capable of beating alot of guys, just not the very elite IMO. He got a HUGE payday with Hopkins and has been having big PPV fights his entire career. I dont know about when he was younger, but I'm willing to bet he's doing just fine with spending money these days. He could retire today and still make money off of Golden Boy promotions, or singing, or or whatever. Plus he's got a huge name so there will always been money to be made for him. I bet anything he fights Mayweather within the next couple of years for another huge payday.

He's rich as fuck( like 100+ million rich) and on his way to be the next biggest promoter in the game( king and arum are about at the end of thier run), I think he just wants one more big fight then hes out. He just wants to go out a winner in a big fight. I think hes done after this one.

Hes nowhere near shot, watered down slightly but not shot. And he plans on finishing his career this year, actually seems like a smart choice to me.

They said the same thing about Muhammad Ali & Roberto Duran. My bet is that Oscar will still be fighting in his 40s & broke and punch-drunk by his early 50s. Remember that Mike Tyson, Roberto Duran, Wilfredo Benitez, and Pernel Whittiker made millions & now look at them.

Comparing Oscar's income and financial well-being to any other fighters is in a word, stupid. Any assertion that Oscar will "be fighting in his 40s & broke and punch-drunk by his early
50s." is again, stupid. Comparing DLH's health and wealth to Tyson, Duran, Ali, Benitez, and Whittaker is also stupid. DLH is a boxing empire, his finances, businesses, and investments are managed extremely well and he's still a very healthy and capable fighter. This thread is bullshit.

what in the world is all this stupid shit youre talking about ??
of all the predictions guys go out and make on this forum, this is be far, the most stupid one ive ever read.

oscar is one of the smartest guys in boxing, and i think that when hes on his mid 40's, when you say he'll be half broke and punch drunk, he will have doubled his fortune... cause what was a brilliant carreer moneywise, will be followed by an unbelievable promoting empire, which has actually already began in avery very succesful way.

the name oscar de la hoya, like someone said, is an empire.
roberto duran is my favorite fighter ever, but to compare him as a person outside the ring with oscar is absurd... duran is a man from the streets of a poor country, who got a lot of money but never really became a "refined" person, never really improved intellectually ( although hes incredibly street smart and holds strong opinions on many subjects), is what one could call a basic individual, plus one with pleanty of demons... oscars case is the exact opposite.

Oscar can still fight it just seems his heart isnt in it as much as it used to be. Come on the guy has only lost 4 fights to good fighters. He got screwed on one of those four as well. So we will have to wait and see what Oscar comes out, maybe he will show us the passion he used to have in previous fights.

He fights on not only because he still can, but more importantly because we are wiling to pay him top dollar. Oh, he also wants to retire with a belt.

Duran > Oscar

Duran > Mayorga

Thus: Oscar > Mayorga. Mathematically perfect.
