Unification of the Heavyweight Division has begun.

With his 10th consecutive knockout, Shannon Briggs assimilated four "minor" titles and set himself up for a NABF title shot. You have to admire the guy for starting at the bottom and working his way up to true unification. From what I can tell, that gives Briggs the IBU, WBC Fecarbox, NABO, NABA, and USBA titles.

My question is this...boxrec.com lists Shannon's recent win as being for the WBO Heavyweight Title. I'm sure Lamon Brewster would have something to say about that, right?

Regardless, the World's Most Dangerous Male Model is steamrolling towards unification. God help the NABF Champ when they get in the ring with Briggs. Then we'll have someone tall enough to deck Valuev, strong enough to annihilate Wlad, and good enough to beat Brewster and Rahman.

its not that briggs was fighting for the WBO belt... he was fighting for the NABO belt, which belongs to the WBO i think.
NABO would be, to say it in some way, WBO´s north american title.

i do admire hes starting from the bottom and working his way up.... but personally, i dont have my hopes up on him.
for me, calvin brock is the future of the HW division, and amuch better fighter.

Fair play for Briggs making another go of it. But I think it needs to be said that if we are relying on Shannon Briggs comeback as the future of the division then there really is no hope.

Good luck to him though as I'd rather him than a couple, no names (other than freak show and sir run alot).

Shannon Briggs + defense = good chances of a comeback being successful.

Shannon Briggs + softness around the gut + getting hit by Ray Mercer = certain death.

I do wish him well though, he's an extremely nice guy.

No defense and an absolute sucker for the jab and overhand right are his downfalls. Doubt he'll make too many waves even in the division's weak state, hes bolt upright and just cant seem to get his head out of the way of a good jab, even turns his head sideways to take them on the side rather than move it out of the way, weird.

I'd like to see Brewster vs. Briggs...what the hell.

But with Briggs' horrible stamina he'd likely be sucking wind about a minute into the fight, and with his general lack of defensive awareness/skills (hands low, chin high) I don't see this fight seeing the two minute mark of the very first round before Brewster nails him with with a big left hook or two...

Briggs is one of the few guys who could actually KO Brewster and anyone else IMO but Shannon has a weak chin and defense so I cant see him beating Brewster or Wlad honestly. He has a shot though

That's my two reasons for Shannon never accomplishing shit in this division ever again, beyond beating up on sheltered Brazilian Heavyweights and Dicky Ryan. I think its hilarious that Toney's shit display against Rahman has lead Necro to taking on SHANNON BRIGGS as his new heavyweight saviour. At least get on the Kevin Johnson bandwagon, or with Sultan Ibragimov.
