So I just signed up for an amateur fight...

This will be my first one. I don't have any official boxing experience, ie I've never trained at a boxing gym but I've been training for about six years. The fight is on december 5th. I started training about 3 weeks ago. A lot of conditioning, lots of heavy bag work and core lifts like dead, bench and squats.

I've been focusing on keeping my 1,2's straight. Its 3 rounds, 1 per round. For this last month I'll be training with a guy who's had about 8 or 9 amateur fights.

Any training tips from the boxing forum?

Cheers!

Try hitting your opponent without getting hit as much. I see boxers do that sometimes.

Right there with boje....
gotta spar with people who know what they are doing.

I got a false sense of ability when I was in high school by sparring with guys on my wrestling team and football team. Then I sparred a scrawy Puerto Rican kid when I went off to college and it didn't even feel like the same sport. I quickly learned how discouraging it was to fight a guy who was a decent counterpuncher.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Most of the fights before you reach "open" division are going to be brawls. Move your head, and just punch, punch, punch.

Learn how to move, that's most important. If you move, your opponent will have to reposition his feet. Once he starts to reposition his feet, ATTACK... he CANNOT mount an offense until he's planted his feet again. Even if he does his you, it won't have much power. It's exactly how Bhop beat Pavlik.

I touch myself to Manny Pacquiao... I should never bet against Quickdraw, ever, ever, ever.

Sig bet record 0-1

3 1 minute rounds...is this a toughman competition or something similar? Ammy boxing is 2 min rounds for novice fighters.

Good luck in your fight.

since this is your first fight you should spar alot and get use to getting hit and throwing and finding your range. try and spar with alot of people and get the feel of it....other than that keep your head moving and try not to get hit and work on that foot work. and always keep your chin down and hands up. good luck
