Just terrible, I just found out one of my earliest idols died 10 minutes ago. Oh why. what was he depressed about I wonder. I began following boxing right at the time he kayoed mancini and he became my hero. The mancini victory was an introduction for many americans to him. Still one of my favorite fighters to watch, because, well, when I watch boxing I get mental impressions of what the fighter feels or thinks. I put myself in their shoes and with alexis I get pure focus, it's almost like meditation watching him. You will never see a fighter like that again, he seemed to almost ween the violence out of his work. Just beautiful to watch. I recall reading of some Yogi master visiting his gym, watching him train and remarking that the balance he had was what these guys strive for. I honestly think the Pryor defeats dogged him, tormented him, I may be wrong but I think they may have broken his spirit. I used to worry about him alot, always hearing stories about him missing, him fighting in some war, fighting with his son in law (mayorga) and of course the drugs. Been a helluva week.

Pic really breaks my heart, turns my stomach. Life can get so heavy sometimes. Everyone has their demons, some people lose to them and life is just so fragile. Sometimes I just want to shake some of these guys and say "you know, you did pretty damn good!"

I was shocked when I heard the news about Arguello. I had just rewatched his fights with Pryor last week, and man those fights never get old. RIP Alexis.

This was very sad news. I remember watching him when I was a kid. He was a heavy hitter. With a huge huge huge heart. Just look at that record. He was a beast!!!!!

I didn't know if this was posted yet, but here is a classy line from Boom Boom about Arguello
Ray Mancini: "This guy was great,” Mancini told USA Today, referring to Alexis Arguello. “He dissected you through the whole fight. He takes a little piece of you, he takes another little piece of you, so when it gets in the later rounds, it's over. After fighting him, I knew I'd be world champion, because I knew what it took. But more than anything I knew how to be a champion and how to act like a champion."
