Povetkin v Sykes

Povetkin wins by 4th round TKO.

Sykes acted and looked pathetic. In his corner between the 3rd and 4th round he said something that made his corner reply with, "why can't you do it?!"... it looked like Sykes said, "I can't do it" to prompt that comment".

Povetkin should have won this and he did. He looked impressive. He would throw powershots and Sykes head, Sykes would start to cover up, and then Povetkin would move to this left and dig a left hook on Sykes body.

Sounds like Povetkin looked pretty good. Doesn't do much for Syks, though, to basically quit during the fight.

Now the question is: Can Povetkin handle Wlad?

I think he's got a better chance than anyone. Povetkin is tough as iron and has incredibly impressive movement for a heavyweight. He can hit, too. Wlad will have a fight on his hands, at the very least.

Hard to tell off of this fight, because Sykes has never been even a B level guy. How he got this fight is beyond me, I still remember seeing him so scared when he fought Peter. A better test of Povetkin would have been a Monte Barrett, Jameel McCline or Hasim Rahman level guy.

Great points.

When I first heard of this fight I was pretty taken aback. The caliber he was fighting and then this? Unless, as stated in another thread, this was merely a keep busy fight to wait the fate of Vlad v Thompson. Then it makes alittle more sense.
However, I would have much rather seen him against Barrett, Rahman.... McCline would be a nice gage to see what he does with a big dude with above average skill.

Sykes also looked scared in this fight. Towards the end of the fight he looked at his corner a couple of times.

Kind of a deviation, an unnecessary fight. Could have fought top contender or maybe another prospect like Alexander Dimitrenko.

It was probably just a keep-busy kind of fight until something better comes along.

Wlad has to fight Povetkin soon anyway. It's a mandatory, so don't expect Povetkin to do anything risky until he gets that shot.
