Taylor vs Pavlik almost signed

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/box...dan&id=2897577

"I think it's a great fight. I love Pavlik. He's earned the shot," DiBella said. "The winner of Pavlik-Miranda deserved the shot. Pavlik went in there and proved it decisively. He is the legitimate No. 1 contender. He's the best middleweight who is not the champion and he deserves the shot, and Jermain wants to fight him. Jermain is pumped for the fight.

yeah the british media are making out that taylor lost the right to fight calzaghe with his lack luster performance against a beefed up welter weight

i have to agree w/ you. if he does hang on to the middleweight title, he'll have to go through the fire to do it.

Jermaine's in for a rough ride. He was forced to fight back against Winky due to Wink's non-stop punching style. He was lucky Winky can't crack. Pavlik will also force Jermaine into a fight, and he can crack. However Kelly gets hit alot so Jermaine might KTFO him. I'm leaning towards Pavlik. Seems JT has lost his will.

This is all Jermain's fault. Calzaghe saw he was no draw, and with the crowd chanting "Cory, Cory", it made Jermain look like a schmuck of a defending Unified Champ. Not to mention a terrible actual performance and I'm sure Joe asked himself "what would I prove beating this kid up in front of a bunch of people who don't care about him anyway?" Meanwhile Ring Magazine is doing spreads about how Boxing NEEDS the fight with Kessler.

Jermain on the other hand is faced with a mandatory defense, and nowhere to move up to. So by not beating Spinks decisively and winning over the crowd, he assured that he's either gonna have to fight or flee against Pavlik. And if he flees, he becomes probably the most hated Middlweight Champ in Boxing History. If he fights, he probably gets KO'd in a terrible stylistic match-up for him as he don't like aggression one bit (OUMA backed him up).

I am happy this is happening, but I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Taylor win. He still holds many advantages against Pavlik, who isn't nearly as defensively slick as Hopkins, Wright, or Spinks. Offensively, Taylor should give Pavlik trouble. The big question is whether he can contain Pavlik's offense. I think we will see a much more entertaining fight than we're used to seeing Taylor in and I'd be surprised if Pavlik ran right over him. Even though I thought Hopkins won both fights, he certainly didn't run over Jermain and neither did Wright. I don't think Pavlik would have had as much success against those 2 fighters than Taylor did. Then again, I think he'd have more success against Ouma and Spinks than Jermain did. This fight is certainly interesting though. Probably the most interesting middleweight fight since Hopkins-Trinidad.
