Pacquiao To Retire in 2007?

Pacquiao To Retire in 2007?
Arman Armero, of the Manila Standard Today, reports that Filipino icon Manny Pacquaio may retire as early as 2007.

During an interview given to reporters on Wednesday in General Santos City, Pacquiao stunned the group of scribes with his retirement plan. Pacquiao is looking to get out of boxing before he suffers any kind of permanent injury, and he wants to focus on his string of businesses, including his promotional company - Manny Pacquiao Promotions.

“Maybe after about two fights, I will retire already. I want to personally supervise my business ventures. It really makes a difference when one manages his own business,” Pacquiao said.

Pacquuiao has a fight scheduled on November 18 trilogy bout with Erik Morales, live on pay-per-view from Las Vegas, Nevada, and would love to have Marco Antonio Barrera as his next opponent.

The latest Ring Magazine rankings have him at #3. Not to shabby....

Its rare that a fighter can retire when he's on top. Can he turn down million dollar paydays?

Pacquiao has enough money and business assets to provide for the next 5-6 generations of "Pacquiaos"... he has no need for more money. Also remember, even though Pacman is only 27, he has nearly 50 fights under his belt.

If he retires after beating Morales and Barrera again, I would be happy.

Imagine, a 28 year old fighter, with enough money to live more than comfortably his entire life, and with all his senses. Quite a nice ending to such a ferocious career.

3. (new) Ready 2 Rumble: "Its not so hard...jumping from dick to dick."

4. Dion: "there were no strikes on the ground" (Dion talking about Rickson vs. Funaki, a fight he obviously had not seen)

5. (new) black-jack-shalack: Wrong. ROyce wanted NHB rules not grappling. Yoshida wanted full grappling. The compromise was the rules similar to the Helio match.

Royce Gracie: Actually, I was just talking with the promoters about that. This year will be the 50th anniversary that my father, Helio, and Kimura had their Jiu-Jitsu match. I asked the promoters how it would be if we had the same rules as my father and Kimura fought under. No striking and only grappling. My father will turn 90 years old this October and I would like to fight under those rules as a present to him.

I'd like to see him fight the Barrios/Guzman winner before hanging 'em up.

That'd be a great end to a great career.

I really want to see Pac-Man to win WBC SFW title before he retires. (Everyone believes he deserves to win the title.)
