Pac vs Cotto--- Game Plans-- What tools are applied?
These are my first thoughts and reserve the right to modify them as the fight gets closers.
Manny
I just re-watched Cotto vs Judah. The glaring opening on Cotto is the straight left more so than the uppercut. Judah landed that punch with a high degree of regularity early. I would guess that is why Roach believes Manny can take him out in the first few rounds. Manny has a blazing fast and powerful left hand. Manny is as fast as Judah and will have the discipline to apply his corners game plan all night, which i suspect will in part rely heavily on that punch. This punch coming from the weird angles Manny throws it will present some serious problems for Miguel.
Cotto
Given what Manny has done to Hatton and Juan Manuel in the first few rounds and taking into account what Judah did to him early; Cotto will have to weather an early storm. I am not yet clear on Cotto's options other than a constant body attack( via the left hook) and even pressure with an intent to punish him, ala his reputation"cotto doesn't just beat you, he beats you up".
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conventional wisdom would say Cotto will be stronger, but am not sure this will be the case.
How is this fight won? and don't say ninja speed.

Shane Mosley was hitting Cotto with overhands too. Cotto is hittable.
I just watched Cotto/Clottey and Cotto is still really fast though.

You know another component is Cotto's corner. His uncle has much more experience than Santiago. A malleable game plan at this level is paramount. I am not sure how many plans they really have?

I had been leaning heavily for Cotto as recent as a month ago, but I have changed my mind. I think Pacquiao takes it, unfortunately. I'd love to see Cotto win. I don't think Manny will be able to knock him out, but I do see him getting a Doctor or corner stoppage late. Cotto cuts damn near every fight these days, and as others have mentioned, he is definitely there to be hit.

I agree with this. Manny has shown himself to be susceptable to late surges. JMM came back late and almost beat him twice. If it wasn't for the knock downs in the first fight he would have won. If cotto can weather the early storm he may be able to rally late.

Manny is often off balance when he throws that left straight of his. Expect to see Cotto work uppercuts.

DAMN and here I was thinking that I realized somthing no one else did. Cotto cuts bad and sorta easy, PAC will cut him early and use his speed and accurcy to rip it apart. Doc calls it in the 9th.

yeah i hope the same but Cotto does cut pretty easy...i hope that he can utilize that left hook to the body early on to slow down Pacquio's onslaught and wear him down enough to land some shots later in the fight...War COTTO!!!!!!
