it's just a small part of fighting. those with rhythm can appreciate it. ie... anderson silva, rashad evans. those without, really don't even need it.

you will see a lot of similarities in muay thai boran and chinese wing chun. you can do with or without it. it just adds a little flavor to your standup.

Did you watch the documentary I referenced?

Yeah, interestingly when they interview the older guys and they demonstrate 52 blocks technique, they pretty much demonstrate boxing (and that awesome 1950s style boxing at that). It's only the younger guys doing the super flashy elbow-chicken-wing stuff. The old guys just mentioned that they would put showboating into their fights, that they had to "look good" winning.

"A Version of Jail House Rock, referred to as "52 Hand Blocks" or "the 52s", is said to have originated in the gang neighborhoods of Brooklyn and nearby boroughs of New York City during the late 1970s and early 1980s. 52 was created from old "asiatics" boxing that was modified in the penal institutions such as Comstock, and Elmira and later used heavily on the streets as a male rite of passage. It had a code of honor or street ethic that ensured that fighters would have no "beef" after a fight.
