Glad they had the vargas fight #1 as opposed to the De La Hoya fight.

Seeing his kayo over Campas reminded me of a forum I use to lurk on, they had a poster named Yory Boy-- the most ridiculous name and he had this really ridiculous avatar of Campas with some sort of native Mexican headress (not a sombrero but something else, looked like a giant fucking peacock was on his head. Oddly enough, he was the best poster I've ever come across.

Imagine De La Hoya vs Trinidad, only with a legit welterweight superstar, with Roy Jones speed and power, throwing those shots at Tito. It goes not so well for Felix.

Of course it doesn't go well for Tito, but it'd be hella fun for as long as it lasts.

I guess tam tam has to do a thread on luis rodriguez.
He shouldn't have to. "El Feo" was easily one of the greatest WW's of all-time. He was the man a young Fighter used to watch, enamored of his skill and abilities. This starry-eyed young man would go on to pattern his style after Rodriguez, which would take him all the way to the World Heavyweight Championship. His name was Muhammad Ali.

I actually used to get a chance to discuss Rodriguez all the time, when Shark's, Nick, Kid and the crew were still around. I did a search for the old stuff, but I think the forum killed those years long ago.

Liu just said it very nicely in brief, though. Some of his fights are very easy to come by. Like the night he took the welterweight title from Emile Griffith. That was on national TV and I have a first run copy of that card...notorious as it was.

And those were the days when Emile wasn't in any way shape or form an easy win for anyone. Not that I ever thought he was a push-over, age-declined version aside. Just I've often read him described as "steady, if unspectacular."

LOL if someone talks about Emile Griffith that way, they have AIDS. Griffith is a top 30 fighter of all-time, with the #1 resume in the entire sports history. Bar none.

I agree. But you know those who never forgave him for holding back in many many Fights beyond the Paret debacle. Speaking of which, I finally got a hold to Ring of Fire, haven't watched it yet, though. I know it's gonna be tough.

But for Emile to remove his willingness to go after a guy with that ferocity and still do what he did in the Sport for as long as he did it, astounding.

Ring of Fire is fantastic. It blows "Unforgivable Blackness" out of the water. Terrific doco, mate.

When people tell you Emile was this, that or the other, just remember this: In HOF, Emile Griffith has fought the most top ten contenders. Robinson, Armstrong, Duran, Leonard, Monzon, Louis, Ali, Hagler, WHitaker, Chavez...whoever. They're all behind Emile.

55% of his fights over the space of his entire career, involved a top ten ranked opponent. Unheard then and now. Absolutely incredible.
