Fedor's boxing

I know you guys love to comment on the relatively poor boxing skills currently being displayed in MMA, but I was curious to get the consensus on Fedor's Sambo-style "Casting punch"

The Fight Nerd | How to throw the Fedor Punch AKA Sambo’s “casting” punch

Do you think somebody who employs this type of unorthodox striking technique would still fare well in MMA 15-20 years down the line when fighters with much more accomplished boxing/kickboxing pedigrees will likely be present in MMA? I mean it worked for Fedor against kick boxers like Goodridge, Schilt and Cro-Cop, not so much against Arlovski but Fedor couldn't train properly for that fight.

I think it's a decent striking technique that becomes much more effective when you account for it's ability to set-up the clinch, which is very dangerous if you fighting Fedor. But how would world class boxers transitioning into MMA deal with it?

well a good example is Aleks. he throws the same way well most of the russian fighters do. Aleks got worked in his boxing match. his looping sambo punches did not work

His style also accounts for part of the reason he constantly injures his damn thumb.

I'm almost certain you meant to say he originally began training in Queensberry Rules before deciding to go to Sanda and MMA...

God damn reality tv to Hell! Even as the voice-over is telling us all about Fedor's "devestating" punches, we're seeing a bunch of bullshit shots that do virtually no damage, except maybe to Fedor's thumbs.

When are people going to learn that the only time you hype something with "curing cancer" importance is the actual cure for cancer? Otherwise you just wind up looking stupid.

Oh, and make the words fit the images or choose images that fit the words.

"Fedor has used this to land devestating blows on his opponents' head and body..."

Pity that what I saw was a bunch of ineffective shots that landed on the arms and did no damage...

And Riley, based solely on your demonstration, I'd call that some kind of "reverse back-fist" and if you tried that on a straight boxer I reckon you'd be asking for either an uppercut or a short, straight-right to the jaw...
