TUF targets males around 18-35 years, which are the ppl that watch shows of that sort.
The contender targets too broad of a range. They try to get women to watch with all the sappy sentimental family crap. They try to get non boxing fans to watch by adding thuds, crowd shots, and editing the fight. It would be smart of them to target the male 18-35 range,let the pesonalites carry the show, more so now that its on ESPN.

But i agree its a crap show, the editing of fights kills me

Personally, I dont know any gals that care about boxing unless DLH is involved.

The first season of contender actually did a good job of reeling in non-boxing fans. I wonder if the switch to ESPN which is basically already an all sports network is going to hurt the show.

i don't mind the contender even though the editors make so much of the show predictable.
The fact of the matter is that if I just want to watch some good boxing, I'll turn on a boxing card or order a ppv.
They are trying to broaden the market for boxing and that is a sport that needs new fan blood bad. The way to get fans is to get people to connect with fighters on a personal level - instead of thinking 'what abrutal sport' people cheer for these everyday guys who are trying to better their families' lives. It works - my wife loves the show.
If you don't like the show - don't watch.

Bear in mind that winning TUF guarantees a contract with the UFC itself. Winning the Contender guarentees a million dollar paycheck and what else? Nothing really, the guys in it might get a little more exposure but that's really it.

2 reasons I don't like it.

1. They edit the fights. The fights are 5 rounds X 3 minutes plus 1 minute between breaks equals 20 minutes.

2. There has got to be something to talk about besides the fighters families. It seems like none of the fighters actually want to fight, but they are doing it to make money.
