The Contender sucks

Anyone else hate The Contender? I can't stand all the editing to make the fight look exciting. The crowd shots try to add drama but it just makes me mad. I had hoped they would change these aspects after last season but they didn't. The rest of the show is fine but the way they show the fights is horrible. Why don't they just take the fights from 5 rounds to 3 rounds and show the entire thing?

Agreed. I thought it would be much better now that it's on ESPN, but it sucked massive balls.

Yeah, that bothers me as well, I also hate when they are showing the fights and they add that sound effect when a punch lands.

They try to make slapping hooks from a clinch look like Joe Frazier left hooks.

I agree. I watched it for the first time at work on Tuesday. I was all hyped up because of my newfound love for boxing and it didn't turn out so good. Was the other season like this as well with all the editing and religious talk among the fighters.

I thought it was funny.

I agree, I can't believe they can try to market these guys as real fighters then edit their fights. When there's a boring round they add big thuds and slow motion to any little thing that lands. How are we supossed to really judge these fighters if they don't show us the whole fight? It's like trying to judge a guy on his highlight reel.

I think we should be grateful for any show that brings in new fans to a dying sport. The contender is good for boxing, just as TUF is good for MMA.

I think the contender just targets the wrong crowd
TUF targets males around 18-35 years, which are the ppl that watch shows of that sort.
The contender targets too broad of a range. They try to get women to watch with all the sappy sentimental family crap. They try to get non boxing fans to watch by adding thuds, crowd shots, and editing the fight. It would be smart of them to target the male 18-35 range,let the pesonalites carry the show, more so now that its on ESPN.

But i agree its a crap show, the editing of fights kills me

I hate it. I certainly don't think it's going to do anything to put boxing back on the map. It might convert a few new fans. but for the most part I think people can see it's a drama based product. For that reason I feel the move to ESPN was a poor decision. As crusty said they are targeting the show to the wrong demographic anyway.
