BREAKING NEWS: PACQUIAO FLIES TO MANILA AFTER BARRERA MEETING!
By Salven L. Lagumbay
Sun, 12 Aug 2007
SACRAMENTO, Calif.--A multitude of fans were waiting for Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao to show up at yesterday's World Cup official weigh-in here, but were disappointed when the Filipino icon did not show up with not even a hint of his whereabouts.
However, sources have revealed that the Filipino boxing hero had returned to the Philippines last night.
Yesterday, Pacquiao joined Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera at a Beverly Hills press conference to formally announce their Oct. 6 rematch at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Also present were promoters Oscar De la Hoya and Bob Arum.
Pacquiao was slated to fly to Sacramento yesterday immediately after the press conference in his capacity as team captain to the Filipino boxers seeing action against Mexican warriors today at the Arco Arena. Pacman, however, did not show up at the weigh-in, while the ever professional De la Hoya flew from LA to Sacramento just to grace the event.
Mexican team captain Juan Manuel Marquez showed up to cheer for his fighters, giving his boys the much-needed boost for today's fight.
Meanwhile, reliable sources from Los Angeles informed yesterday that Pacquiao decided to fly back to the Philippines for unknown reasons, thereby prompting organizers to ask if indeed he was interested in fighting Barrera.
An executive of one of the co-promoters informed yesterday that Pacquiao had indeed left Los Angeles to fly to Manila, and wondered if he was serious in his next fight. This was confirmed by Pacquiao's close associate Rex 'Wakee' Salud.
Pacquiao reportedly flew with trainer Buboy Fernandez, raising suspicions that the latter would be training Pacquiao the entire duration of his training for Barrera. There were reports Pacquiao had a slight disagreement with trainer Freddie Roach during yesterday's press conference at Beverly Hills.
Last month, Pacquiao had indicated that he wanted to train at Rex 'Wakee' Salud's new gym in Cebu City.

It's funny...some people put Barerra's loss to Manny down to being because his head wasn't in the game that night, and now people may be saying the same thing but about Manny this time.

Barrera still ain't got much of a chance. People will give him sentimental favors because he's Barrera, but he's worn, slower, and less aggressive than when they met the first time. Meanwhile Manny's stronger, boxes better, and hasn't lost any aggression since. However, Manny has been shown to not have the best mental constitution to anyone who has REALLY been paying attention. If he comes into the fight with his head up his ass, it could end up looking a lot like Barrera/Juarez II.

the only difference is this is manny's own doing.
Wow Pacman is acting like a Damn Diva right now! Such a shame that he would sneak away back to manila. He is very unproffessional he freaking cancelled all his flights to the USA for 3 weeks traight arum and oscar postponed the presscon at least 4 times.
Look at Barrera he is pissed as shit.

I don't think Barrera will win but since Manny is acting all crazy now-a-days the fight may be much closer then we all expect.

Barrera did have distractions (personal plus the steel plate in his head kept on going off at the airport ****l detector). He defintitely wasn't right against Pac in the first fight, BUT, even if he was, would he have beaten the buzzsaw even if he expected a buzzsaw? Probably not.

No Roach = defeat for Manny. Roach is the only one who can get Manny somewhat focused. Manny game didn't evolve until Roach got into the picture. Without Roach Manny is one dimensional. Also without Roach Manny loses his composure. Freddie keeps him calm in-between rounds.
Example: Pac-Morales 1....Manny gets cut. It was a bad cut and Freddie told the fliipino seconnd assist to calm down and shut up numerous times in-between rounds.
*Imagine if all 3 started to respond like the 2nd assist. Then a little doubt begins to creep in Manny's mind. Manny begins to try harder and the next thing you know he's out of gas.*
Manny doesn't need camp chaos nor does he need a chaotic corner.
I don't know what the problem is with Manny in that he seems to get himself in shit all the fn time. There have been stars from small countries who have done the same thing as Manny but also some stars who were able to distance themselves. We know before this story broke where Manny was the whole time.
I'm a little tired of hearing how Manny can't say "No". He's has the ability not to be strong armed by any outside influences but continues to get involved in that shit. This lies on him and Roach has to realize that this shit isn't going to stop until Manny decides its going to stop. No matter how hard Roach tries Manny's going to do what Manny's going to do.
Freddie doesn't see that Manny's number one goal doesn't seem to be boxing anymore.
KK you're right...it looks like another fighter's career thats unraveling.
You and I chatted about MAB-PAC 2 and we both agreed Manny should steamroll MAB at this time of their careers.
But you know what? MAB is motivated and Manny's distracted. Eroded skills or not MAB can box his way to victory if it isn't 100% Manny in there. This fight just got very very interesting.
P.S:If Manny took off back home. I think Arum call this fight off.
