I think I would disagree that that 8 are the best of all time but they all had some pretty good defensive skills. Even Tyson, who we never think of as a defensive boxer had great head movement and made guys miss alot.

But there are some glaring absences. Winky Wright jumps to mind. IF you add a guy like tyson, then you gotta add RJJ. He has great defense when he wants it and in his hey day he could slip punches with the best of them. Then you got hopkins, who shuts down guys offensive but it isn't really highlight friendly defense.

Here's a similar type of video I made, with some different boxers:

YouTube - The greatest defensive artists of all time Part 1

YouTube - The greatest defensive artists of all time Part 2

I haven't gotten around to doing a third part yet.

Great video. The list was good but there could have been several others on the list. Pernell Whitaker without a doubt deserves the number one spot. I remeber growing up and wanting that kind of gift. Too bad it turned out my gift was not to avoid them but actually absorb them in the ring.

Its kind of funny that some didnt recognize that Mike Tyson had great head movement and rarely took a flush punch when he was in his prime. He is mainly remebered for his speed and KO power.

Neither belong there. I was about to mention Naz too. Yea, he was fast and could get out of the way of shots USUALLY, but i have seen him cracked good several times. If they are going to put someone in there who's defense is keeping his hands down and using speed to get out of the way of punches then they should of put RJJ on there instead.
