People who train, how educated fight fans are people at your gyms?
I train BJJ now and most of the guys I train with that I have talked to have a good grasp on what is going on in the world of mixed martial arts.. They know about the various promotions. I have a friend who trains at another school in my town, he came over to watch WFA pay per view at my place and he called friends he was training with and told them he was watching UFC... anyways, so a few guys from his school come over and they don't know who the guys are except they had heard of Rampage. I told them Rampage was last guy to beat Chuck, and they corrected me and said no Randy was the last guy to beat Chuck.. lucky for me I had fight finder... none of them had heard of sherdog. I showed them videos of Rampage when it was between fights and they were excited to see him. They knew who Lindland was because they said he is the guy who knocked himself out.. only one of the three knew who Bas was. They are cool guys but they have absolutely no MMA knowledge.. And we were discussing fighting and I think they train with big time amateurs, everyone thought a straight arm lock and key lock were Kimura's.. Like the guy who trains them just watched a dvd or something because they had very limited knowledge although they are all pretty tough guys. They all thought Pride was a lesser organization with lesser fighters...
Anyways that is a huge ramble.. These guys were really cool but like I said they had little MMA knowledge and I was concerned about the school they train at. I am new to BJJ so I don't know shit from shit but I watched the sport long enough to know a little something. They also had huge bruises all over their arms, and they said they went to some TKD school and had guys kick them in the arms so they could get used to being kicked... Maybe it is good training but I wouldn't do it.. geesh.. Are the most of the people you meet in BJJ, wrestling, judo, boxing classes or whatever you take somewhat educated in MMA besides UFC?

Most of the guys I know that like MMA are mainly from Boxing backgrounds having watched it as kids. 2 of my buddies train martial arts, 1 is some weirdo Kung Fu school he goes too with his girlfriend and the other trains Hapkido. For the most part, what they know about MMA stems from Spike TV and whatever comes up in conversation while I'm around and I'm the teacher on MMA for my buddies ... they know I know alot about it but they're pretty limited.
Alot of them think BJJ is "it" and there is nothing else... there are some of them who still think a Boxer would smash all these chumps... so it'll take some education in time. I truly wish UFC would start to acknowledge the existance of established organizations out there in the world such as Pride, ADCC etc. instead of being off-hand comments by Joe Rogan. Hopefully this step towards Pride vs. UFC fights being scheduled will improve this stance in the States.
