Since I was younger, I alwayw had problems with this case. Military justice is different, but this man was found guilty of killing his wife, then found innocent because of DNA, then locked up again.
Jeffrey McDonald was a Medical Doctor in the army, a decorated Vietnam Vet who, (according to the military version) killed his wife and three young children in their sleep one night in the 70's...... The problem was, Dr. McDonald claimed always he was attacked by "hippies" two men, one woman with a floppy hat, and he tried to fight them off. He suffered many stab wounds and a collapsed lung.
Where the military becomes suspisious is that Dr. McDonald was a Green Beret!!!! Their view was this Dr was a trained Green Beret killer from Vietnam with logged kills and as a Doctor knew how to not only hurt himself, but definitely kill his family.
Problem again though.....IS THE BITCH IN THE FLOPPY HAT CAME FORWARD AND CONFESSED!!!!!!!!
She said she and her friends went onto the base and attacked Dr. McDonald and his family. She admitted they were on PCP and when asked where the co-horts were, she said : "They all died of OD" and provided proof they were dead!......
So Dr. McDonald was released.....
BUt.... He goes 10 or so years practicing a clean MD practice, then the family of his widowed wife flips and suddenly thinks he did it!
So on appeals, they cry, the girl with the floppy hat dies of old age, and Dr. McDonald gets locked up again with NO physical evidence and stays there to this day. Last year a former US marshall testified in federal court that some of the evidence was "mishandled" against Dr. McDonald but US military courts have stated that the same rules for civilian justice arent the same as military justice...
In other words, likely an innocent Dr with talent is locked up in some federal prison for no reason!
