engineering job hunting advice: call backs

I applying for entry-level chemical engineering jobs. Usually, a week after I turned in my application, I call back to tell them I am following up on the status of my application and to answer any questions they may have. Most have told me that it's been send and is being reviewed. After that, I have not heard anything. For some jobs, its been 2 weeks since my last follow up call.

2 questions:
-Does my first follow up call seem alright?
-Should I do another follow up call for those who have not responded to me even long after my first follow up call? I mean, the job qualification said 'entry-level, B.S. Chemical engineering required', I seem to fit that bill perfectly.

Call them up and tell them, "Listen you fucks, I'm very qualified for this job. There's no reason that I shouldn't get this unless you plan on hiring one of your unqualified idiot relatives or friends. Now please call me back before I shoot up your office with an uzi."

I generally send a note after meeting with the various people on the first interview.
Just sending a thank you and reaffirming your interest in the position is all you need.

I stay away from phone calls and prefer e-mail so you don't catch them on the spot when they may be too busy to talk to you.

Don't wory about the follow up. It's time to lie on the resume. You either need to lie about a) having more experience b) your education c) your references (this requires a friend to lie as well)

Plus if you are sending the resume and filling out an app at the same time you might be asking for too much $$$. Asking for too much $$$ is the kiss of death no matter how good you are.

Unless it's a big company they will call you back if they're interested. Usually no call = no interest. However it is possible for your resume to get lost at a big firm. Best thing to do is to call and find out which departments or recruiters to send your resume to. Most companies have more than one.

Here is reality....if you have to make follow-up calls or send a follow-up letter, your resume is not good enough or memorable enough.

As a manager that has hired many people, I hate when people call me asking if I had their resume. Only make that call or drop a note immediately after an interview. If I am interested in your resume I will be in contact otherwise leave me the hell alone.

Being a pest is a sure way to get your resume put on the bottom of the pile.

The 1st follow up is definitely ok but dont over do it. Theres no need to call more than once, if you have to call more than once they have forgot about you for some reason, either you didnt make a great impressioin or your just not qualified for the job and callin wont help.
