theyre very different movies, the first one is about just a typical day in the life of 2 clerks, whereas the 2nd one had much more plot behind it, which one could argue was what held it back a bit

Consider the fact that the first Clerks was filmed with a shit budget, in b'n'w, and had hardly any 'real' actors...Smith used friends and many relatives as extras....Sometimes he would use the same person more than once...Ever notice how you don't see the faces of certain customers? It's cause they were in the flick already....
