bjj or krav maga for street defence?

hello all,

i'm new to the forum, male, 35, with no experience of m.a. apart from a few months of boxing (no ring, only training).

i'm about to start now, a bit late i know, for street self defence purposes mainly.

i have the oportunity to either go with krav maga, with a very good teacher with years in israil and russia etc, not the fashion kids who got a trainers diploma in 6 months and 1500 dollars. so the guy is for real, no question about it.

or, i can start bjj ,not the pure grapling/groung sport thing as it is sometimes in todays academys but the real stuff, with all throws and strikes from standing possition etc. the teacher there is also very good, has done his thing the long way with judo, sambo, bjj, rusia, brazil etc. he's also preparing fighters for mma tournaments etc.

to tell u the truth, i always liked the bjj stuff. but i keep wondering, would the krav maga be better for street self defence?

also, is krav maga easier to learn / easier to put in practice in a live situation?

thank you

BJJ isnt a good street defense at all actually. If you have to fight 2-3 people you cant exactly take someone down and turn your back to other guys. I train BJJ bc it is by far the most challenging art that I have ever trained in but I also have taken MT, Karate, and Kung Fu and if I ever got in a street fight I would go directly to my Kung Fu background. It is by far the most lethal art I have learned.

BJJ is sport for the most part....of course it can be used to defend yourself but it is limited.

To answer your question I think Krav would be more effective

Krav Maga by far, and nowadays most legit instructors in Krav have crosstrained in BJJ so for street defense it can't be beat.
