Yes I do actually. I started two weeks ago, and I really like it. The trainers seem to be really good guys, and they fight, so I trust that they know what they are talking about.

I noticed you posting in Frodo's log. I talked to him in one of his other threads, but still haven't run into him at South Hills.

The trainers there are great, I haven't trained with them but I know them and I've seen video of them fighting. I used to train at south hills judo, and will again, but for now grad school has other plans for me. what part of pittsburgh do you live in? frodo also runs the grappling club at pitt, which is free.

Where did you see video of them fighting? I live in the South Park/Bethel Park area. I was going to ask about the grappling club. So you don't have to be a student and I can roll with no real grappling training?

5x5 Day 1

Bench 95 105 115 125 135
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9f_y2sFQ2s
all x5 No real problem

Squat 45x5 then 80x5x5

Form is awful. I am trying to keep my back from rounding and focusing on looking straight ahead. But I'm sure other things are wrong, but I don't know what they are. It feels as though I am working my quads a bit too much (i.e. my hamstrings don't hurt too much). Is there a reason for this that you can see in my form?

BOR 95x5x5

No real problems. I think my form is reasonably good for not having done this exercise before saturday.

I don't want to embed the videos here so I included the links. Feel free to be harsh about my form. I've read up and watched videos, but I need to know what I am doing wrong.

That's good, cuz you can't embed in the logs.

I'm no expert, but here's some things I noticed.

Watch the path of the bar when you bench. Try to keep the bar moving is a straight line.
It looks like your grip is fairly wide and your elbow are far enough in, but it's hard to tell from that angle. Both of those are good things. Maybe pull elbows in a bit more.

On the Squats, your form looks pretty good to me, but you should be going lower if you can. Try pushing your knees outward. Otherwise, it looks like you're keeping everything tight and your back looks to be in a good position.
As far as working your quads more, I believe that is normal since you are doing Oly squats (high bar, close stance). I do them the same way and feel it mainly in my thighs and glutes, not my hammys so much.
Personally, I'd stick with Oly squats unless you are just looking for big numbers. It gives you a greater ROM and doing PL squats is somewhat redundant if you do DLs. You will be doing DLs, right?

BORs look good to me. I prefer Pendlay rows. Maybe give those a try sometime.

And the number one thing you need to do is turn off that crap in the background and play some music!

You might want to start a thread asking for people to critique your form. There are a lot of people here that know waaaaay more than I do that may not read your log.

You are damn right I will be doing DLs. I think I'll wait until Wednesday after I do them to post a critique my form thread. I am having trouble soing lower in my squats, but maybe it is just my hips not being flexible enough. I'll be working on it.

What is the difference between PL and Oly squats?

Oly squats have a closer stance and the bar higher. More on your traps.

PL squats have a much wider stance, and the bar sitting on your delts.

The muscles they work are different and personally, I see no reason to do do PL squats unless you want to compete in PLing. Others may disagree.

Here's some info to help you go ATG. The stretches that Devilsson lists are very good.

I saw the video at south hills judo, it was right after Ben and Marc got back from Thailand.

Technically you need to be a pitt student to get into the building, but there is a couple ways to sneak in. I attended the club a lot before I was ever a pitt student. You can come and roll, you'll probably get some special attention to learn breakfalls and beginners stuff, but sure you can come.

Which shorts were you looking for. MTS has good prices, but they are in Thailand, so the rape you on the shipping. It will also take a long time for the stuff to get to you.

Keep up on the training and the log!!
